My partner purchased a car from Pennybanc Car Centre last month. We initially drove 2 hours to collect my new car only to then have a phone call to say it wasn’t ready yet and to drive back home. Me and my partner were due to go away and it was agreed the new car would be delivered upon our return. The new car was then delayed again due to a suspension related issue which they agreed to fix but couldn’t guarantee a day despite stressing I use my car for work. My car eventually arrived 3 days later- delivery driver had no service history or proof of suspension related work and water pump/timing belt being completed as requested- multiple paint related markings to the chair which weren’t stipulated in the original advert- advised to contact the garage the following day- garage agreed to post all relevant documents and to contact Land Rover for a touch up pen which were more than happy with. 4 weeks later we still have no paperwork, no touch up pen, and are now covering a bill for faulty parking sensors which again weren’t stipulated as broken. My partner has had multiple dealings with the garage over the last few weeks- customer service has been disgraceful from both staff and management- swearing at him down the phone, shouting, and stating ‘we’re p***ing him off’- initially agreeing to cover work, then only certain parts, now not responding to messages, just abusive phone calls. We will now be taking this further as we have spent £100’s of pounds to repair the parking sensors to ensure the car works to the correct standards as outlined in the Consumer Rights Act 2015- after giving the garage multiple opportunities to repair!!!. Pennybanc Car Sales you are a disgrace.
First off there were mileage discrepancies between MOT's which I raised with them. I was assured this was a recording error and that the vehicle's service history confirmed the mileage was legit. Okay fine - let's wait and have a look at the service history then...
Second issue - car gets dropped off with one key and not a single other piece of documentation. No V5, no warranty, no service history, nothing.
Asked the delivery driver about the documentation - he said here's all I've got - handed me the key and said we're not taking it back lol.
Phoned up and asked about the v5 (because I can't tax it without it) and spare the key because I don't want it getting nicked - got some run around about how it had previously been on a private reg and they were waiting on the v5 coming back from DVLA said they'd send it asap.
Was told the tax issue is a grey area - not to worry about it.
Told the other key was knocking around and they'd try to dig it out for me.
Asked them to provide the service history that confirmed the mileage and it all went quiet.
I double check the invoice they emailed over and there's a mileage disclaimer (in the smallest possible font) saying the mileage could not be verified and should be considered incorrect.
So there's a good chance I've paid top dollar for a low mileage vehicle that's probably not low mileage. (and they knew it, hence the disclaimer)
On top of that it's taken almost 3 months of ball ache to get the v5 back in my name.
All in all, not a good experience. Would not use them again and more annoyed with myself for not trusting my gut when issues first arose.
The salesman was friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances the car was not right for me so I requested a refund.
The dealer was very helpful and understanding, took back the car and issued a full refund straight away.
Following day being a Sunday so 3rd day in my usual mot man came to help me inspect the vehicle . (Who better right !?) He noticed that the o/s front headlamp was snapped at a join and loose and projecting out more than the n/s the cooler/fans on o/s had play in it too which he felt it may well have been in a bump at some point (would explain a lot) he said it was too clean at the front for its year . I was livid tbh . My kids would be in a potentially hazardous vehicle if weakened. Also although the car had mot according to database there was no present mot ticked in paperwork nor a recent service which most do.
I took it back on the Monday after collecting my children by foot and asked for the deal to be undone and money back , I was told a few times oh we will sort thus and that . If which I wasn't interested . I simply wanted to be done with it as the experience upset my partner and had me feeling sick all weekend . The salesman did get shirty at 1 point but come to the agreement that he didn't want an unhappy customer (although appears to have a few ) may get some of my tax back but other than that I left with money in account and my trust car back .
I don't understand why dealers wish to jeopardise their reputation when all they need to do is sell good honest cars . I simply could not do it to people . ESOECIALLY families with little kids . I'm sure away from this business they're nice people . But within this trade its not doing them any favours .
As others have said look elsewhere rant over
