Compared to other rental companies in Guildford you can usually rent from Europcar cheaper, by around 10 to 20 percent. But that's about the only reason to choose them.
I found a recent rental was a low spec car, despite being only 2 years old. It had no parking cameras and lacked things like an automatic brake (though I personally don't like them) or auto engine shutoff.
It wasn't clean; found chocolate in the dashboard cubby hole and what looked like permanent stains on the chairs.
Service was friendly but slow; a member of staff repeatedly interrupted a young staff member, partly to correct them. Both pick up and drop off took longer than I'd expect, for instance making me wait while they checked mileage and printing a paper invoice despite me not needing one.
If location is what's driving you to choose them, note that National aren't far East and Hertz aren't far South, and both offer a superior product, though you will probably pay a little more for it.
Trying to return the car no one is answering the phones on hold twice for 5 minutes non stop other option is a foreign call centre where the lady had no idea what was going on (this is branch telephone).
The main Europcar switchboard initially sent out RAC to me, who arrived promptly but then told me that Europcar do not allow them to sort out tyres so it was a complete waste of my waiting time and RAC’s time too. They therefore had to leave me without any help now approaching 4pm…
Turns out everyone in the Guildford office must clock off early on a Friday though because I tried the Guildford extension 8-10 times between 3-5pm to request some assistance or a new hire car that worked…as I needed to get to my young cousins to babysit for the weekend and was currently stuck. I was automatically hung up on every single time without answer. I then tried every single other extension option available through the main Europcar switch board, everyone insisted that the only people who could help me with my hire car that was hired from the Guildford branch, was the Guildford branch. Therefore, despite my protesting that it didn’t work, each person I called tried to put me through to the Guildford branch and ended up putting me through to the same automated hang up a further 5/6 times.
What exactly do you expect a woman on her own with a car breakdown to do on a Friday afternoon if I am only able to speak to the Guildford office and in that office no one will answer the phones because they’ve logged off early to go have fun? and of course you prevent RAC from being able to help me too? Please do let me know…
I expect a hire service to provide good service. Otherwise there is absolutely no benefit of using you. At least using my own car, I am not “hand-cuffed” and ultimately prevented from having my own breakdown cover fix me when I’m stuck!! I will never use europcar again for fear of being stranded once again.
