Avis Car Hire - Cardiff International Airport

Terrible service. I paid 101gbp online for a booking on an offer, turned down the offer of collision damage waiver at the airport then discovered that i'd been charged an extra 200gbp by them. Two days after writing a complaint i still haven't heard from a human, just automated responses. Enterprise have an outlet there I believe - I've found them competent before and will use them next time instead.

Not a great service. Car was defective and had to return to branch. They didn't have a good alternative or selection due to their location (that's their response). I will consider using other car rental places in the future.

I wish I could give a ZERO rating if anything. Absolute scammers and money makers, do not use them. They ‘conveniently’ placed their garage right by a fuel station to make you think how clever and convenient! Fully scanned the car the wheels/tyres had scratches and markers prior. Tried to charge me £100+ for “alloy damage”. Firstly it was a £20 plastic wheel cap not the alloy, secondly it wasn’t my damage, thirdly this would only happen if you run the corner of the car along a sidecurb or looked like a sharp object had forked into it which would have required some force. The rental was used entirely for soft driving and went nowhere near a curb, which I was accused of when dropping off the car. There was also about 6 workers having a cup of tea while I was re-fuelling watching me which was stupid and weird. Do not be fooled by their ‘welsh charm’ they are absolute disgusting opportunists. They make too much effort on cleaning and washing the car and then “upgrading” you to make it all sound like they are doing you a favour.

This was not my first time with Avis as a rental company, never had any problems, everything is clear and easy on collection, the estimated cost rather reflects the final price, no issues, nothing to complain so far.

1. My car wasn't checked before giving it to me. Doors couldn't be closed, engine check warnings and others were flashing. When I returned to the desk reception, there wasn't anyone available anymore, so I was left alone in the dark parking lot. First I could get car started while couldn't figure out where the car keys and which orientation they should have left in the cup holder. It was totally dark and indoor lights were off while the doors couldn't get locked. 2. After returning the car for the repairment I was instructed to go Gardiff city center office (50 min away) to get the replacement car. The AVIS office was not instructed, there was no car reserved and no automatic cars available. I was instructed to drive back to the MG shop, around the area from where we just left (I needed to ask my colleague for a ride), but that place was closed then. I was lucky to have my colleague to take my to my hotel. I needed to get a taxi to my office on the second day. This caused several calls and a lot of mess! Thus I wanted to cancel the whole reservation. Certainly I have never had similar issues with any other rental car company, this was my first time with AVIS.

What can I say, from the minute I booked any queries I had Rhian was amazing. So professional, prompt and friendly. Upon arrival again her professionalism shone through and the process was so smooth, Rhian was also very welcoming. She made sure that the car was thoroughly checked before we drove away. We queried having returned the car and she sorted the query out straight away. I cannot recommend highly enough and will definitely be using again. Wish more people were as helpful polite and professional as Rhian
