Church of the Good Shepherd, Downham

The best church there is. Everyone is so welcoming, friendly,respectful and kind. Father John is one of a kind. The church Smells clean, looks clean but, most importantly people from different backgrounds e.g, the ivory coast, Nigeria, the Caribbean islands, India and England all come together to worship. Looking across the room and seeing all of this makes me think how easy it is to kill racism once and for all.

This the church I went to after an absence of around 40 years. I just went for a few times and I sat at the back of the church and prayed. The feeling of peace and quiet was comforting. I now attend regularly. It is not a large church, but it is lovely decorated. The people are very welcoming. The priest Fr John says a lovely mass and always gives a good sermon.

Father John is such a humble, loving, caring & thoughtful Parish Priest. I’ve known him since I was 12. I have huge respect for him and I’m very fond him. He welcomes children dearly during offertory in the mass. Good Shepherd is a blessed place and even if I move out of the area, I shall return for Sunday masses :)

The father is really a very lovable father, very well willing helping out, humble, inshort have not seen such a wonderful person in my life. Take your problems to heart. Knows every children 🚸 in that church names to heart. God will continually bless him. Love you to heart. Very encouraging man of God.

I love father John very much, he’s very warm and welcoming. The family and I have been to the church many times, he has always been the same. We all love you father John🙏🏾😘

I’ve been here for about 7-8 years now and comparing it to other Catholic Churches, this one has to be the best. Fr John always warms our hearts and gives useful homilies. God bless Father John and his team 🙏

As a catholic grandmother I am disappointed my eight year old grandson has been turned down by this parish from making his holy communion, even though he meets all the criteria on your website and attends mass regularly which he enjoys. Currently in the media and tv all we here about is inclusion and here is a member of the Catholic Church excluding an 8 year old boy from making his holy communion with his class mates. I am appalled and saddened by this ☹️
