Bobby was a little off colour and not eating properly the day that I boarded him. Lisa said that if he didn't pick up in a day, she would take him to the vets for me.
I cannot thank Lisa and Co enough. They saved my little Bobby's life. He was diagnosed with pancreatitis and type 2 diabetes and had they not taken him to the vets, I would surely have lost him.
I would never consider going to any other cattery. Martlets don't just board your cat, they are so involved with there wellbeing and will do whatever it takes in a crisis.
Thank you once again Lisa and family for your kindness and caring for all the cats that you care for while their owners are on holiday.
The cattery itself is exceptionally clean and of a high standard, at any time of the year before covid rules I entered it was warm and inviting with more than enough facilities. They are more than happy to suit the needs of the animals and provide their favourite food.
A well filled in form and up to date vaccination record and there will be no problem whatsoever.
Having used this cattery numerous times I have no hesitation in returning in future and recommending it to anyone.
Oscar is eighteen now and has been going there for a few years for a week or two, he comes back happy and healthy every time.
I was shocked to read Lisa Blakes review about this cattery. I have been using Martlets for more years than I can remember and never once have I doubted the love and care that (Lisa), the lady that owns it and her family have for each and every individual cat in their care. They have cared for a number of cats that I've had over the years and have always bent over backwards to accommodate each and every one of thems' individual needs. May I suggest that if anyone has a nervous cat, that has never been left in a cattery before, then they should ask if they can perhaps try them for a day or two to see how they get on. That way, if the cat cannot cope, then the owners are at home, on hand, to collect them immediately, to save their pet from any type of trauma or suffering due to being away from home. I will continue using Martlets, for as long as I have a cat that needs boarding, when I have to go away.
When we dropped him off we were not allowed to see the facilities “due to covid” (this was at the end of August). We were instead directed to their website. When we collected him on the last day we were met with grave faces as if something awful had happened which caused instant panic. We were told our cat had not settled for the entire duration and he had allegedly become aggressive and a danger to the staff (an example given was that when someone approached his gate he blocked them from entering). At this point we were allowed enter the facilities to collect him because everyone at Martlet’s was treating him like he was the virus.
When we approached his room, he was cowering in the back surrounded by litter that hadn’t been changed for days. We had been nervous enough to leave him for the first time but to see how he’d been left was just heartbreaking. When he came out after some coaxing from us, we saw him hiss and growl at the cats either side of him. It was more than obvious to us that the clear issue was he was in plain sight of other cats and needed privacy as he wasn’t used to this and nothing had been done to help him de-stress. A simple blanket covering the sides of his room could have worked, but it was clear no efforts had been made to help him.
We don’t believe adequate efforts were made to help him settle at all throughout his stay. He was immediately back to normal once we got home and didn’t show an ounce of changed behaviour once he’d left Martletts. Regardless of the fact that he may not be suited to catteries after all, the way in which we were made to feel about it was awful. Lisa actually guffawed at me when I suggested she should have picked up the phone and called me instead of sending 1 email to the emergency contact 3 days before pick up. They had apparently called Rio’s vet for advice which our vet cannot corroborate.
Rio is a playful, sociable and affectionate cat and I’m saddened and hurt that it appears he wasn’t shown compassion or understanding as a first timer. We expected a lot more from a cattery with 20 years’ experience. We’re deeply upset and disappointed at the way things were handled and will not be returning nor recommending it to others.
