Situated in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and part of Queen Mary University Campus, this old Cemetery is now bizarrely almost surrounded by tall academic buildings. Burials first occured on the site in 1733 and ceased in 1918 with a rare last interment in 1974. It's crumbling and collapsing flat laid tombstones interspersed by weedy gravelly spaces are etched with fading English and Hebrew epitaphs. In this historically significant inner city enclosed space lie over 2000 mixed wealthy and humbler Sephardic Jewish deceased, equal together in the finality of death!
