Some 12th century features still remain. There's a nice Jerusalem cross (also known as a Crusader's Cross) on the outside of the building. Free parking on road nearby.

This is an ancient church, likely established during the time of the Domesday Book, as the village of Bozeat is listed at that time. I have attended several services here - a christening, a Christingle service, etc.

Sadly, this time, it was for the funeral of my dearest friend.

I remain impressed by the sturdy thick walls of the church, and that no matter the happiness or, in this case, the sorrow, of the service, St. Mary's provides the proper atmosphere for the setting.

My dear friend provided bell ringing services for a time here, and it was he who taught me the history of this church and Bozeat, having written a village history some years ago. He loved this village and its surrounding areas, and was a dedicated and thorough Romano-British archaeologist, having excavated a governor's villa from the 1st - 4th centuries CE, known as Easton Maudit VI, an excavation which can be found online today, and hopefully in the future will be academically published.

If near Bozeat, be sure to visit St. Mary's the Virgin at the top end of Mile Street. As you look out from its front gates to the west, you will be seeing the fields under which the Easton Maudit VI excavation now rests. My friend loved that scene, and is a fitting testament to his life.

St Mary's is a lovely village church. The vicar, lay preachers and congregation are so welcoming and friendly. My husband and I had our marriage blessed in June 2021 a week after lockdown ended and although we had to wear masks it was a happy and wonderful occasion. There is also a wildlife conservation area in the Church grounds.
