Costa Coffee

Coffee is good, service is very slow and inefficient. Second time in a week I've waited some time to be served and left to ensure I don't miss my train

Costa Coffee sells an amazing soft espresso and their desserts are pretty good as well, particularly the chocolate brownie.

Their products are high quality as would be expected of Costa. However, since it is inside the rail station there isn’t really enough places where you can sit and take your coffee or food peacefully. This is more of a take it to go and you enjoy your product on the train (or if you just arrived Durham and would like to enjoy something while you reach your destination).

Besides that, the service isn’t really that good, wether it’s because of the same situation of being inside a rail station or not, you can find yourself dealing with a not so happy employer.

I always fall for it, I pay £3.00 ish for a paper cup full of warm liquid that does not even resemble coffee.

Coffee is coffee, so no problem there. Unpleasantly argumentative red haired lady serving coffee was a problem. Iced white Americano was served with sugar added in which I didn't ask for nor was asked it about. When I came back, I was met with a barrage of loud arguments that this is how it's meant to be served. Durham coffee shop must be unique, cause this is not how this drink is served in London or elsewhere in the UK or other countries and you're always asked if you want sugar added anyway, unless the drink is already meant to be sweet. Retraining in customer service combined with a change in attitude is recommended.
