I always had my suspicions that the dental industry was a bit like the wild West, but my call with the Cheltenham practice today confirmed that. I attended last in 2019, just prior to the pandemic in the capacity of an NHS patient. Throughout the pandemic I followed the guidance and sacrificed my own dental hygiene by making sure that I wasn't taking up any 'emergency' slots' and have today gone to get myself booked in for a check-up. I was told promptly that I am a 'lapsed' patient and that I am no longer able to attend in the capacity of an NHS patient. Apparently there is no requirement for a dental practice to let you know that you have 'lapsed' - 'they are not like the doctors' is what I was told. The biggest irony of all in this conversation is that the receptionist very quickly informed me that I could pay for a private appointment - it's all about the money. Nice. I'll be going elsewhere.

I last came to this dentist quite a few years ago now when I was about 15. I'd just had my braces off and had a gap which needed filling with a bridge. I'd always been insecure about my teeth and the braces I had from my orthodontist were fantastic and really boosted my confidence. But since having my bridge fitted I've never felt worse. It's bulky, unnatural, and the wrong colour, not to mention the wrong size. When it was fitted it arrived without the right size attachment to attach to my next tooth so the dentist folded it over my next tooth, so in addition to having a horrible fake tooth I have a dark black bit of metal folded onto the front of one of my teeth. The whole experience was awful. I remember walking out trying not to cry because i hated it so much but didn't want to say anything. It's easy to tell the tooth is fake and doesn't blend in at all, instead stands out. It's actually my biggest insecurity and I now hate smiling in photos because of how bad it looks. I haven't been to this dentist since and I'm now finally looking to get it replaced privately elsewhere. I won't come back to my dentist after such a bad job.

We were patient's at mydentists for a few years and had a brilliant service from them couldn't be faulted..
Then covid hit and we didn't clogg up the small amount of appointments for severe cases having kept in contact with them then I had an abscess. So I made an appointment went along and got a prescription then we tried to make an appointment for a check up only to be informed that like all of the other people we were no longer patients and there were no available spaces unless we wanted to go private
Sorry I can't afford to go private and I really am annoyed at the way we were dumped
It seems to be a trend to just toss customers aside now
Sorry I won't be coming to you again as a private patient
As for your reply I did come for as regular as you would allow
I came for an emergency appointment with anoth dentist about 6 months prior
Then when I tried to book an appointment for a check up you told me I was taken off the list
So that's a load of complete rubbish

I am very anxious when it comes to visiting a dentist and this has resulted in not seeing one for many years. I booking an appointment at mydentist. From the off everyone I dealt with was just wonderful. Reception staff happy and helpful and when I did attend my appointment Blake was awesome, calm, reassuring and none judgemental. This put me at total ease and left this first appointment feeling happy and very relieved. I have since had all the work that needed doing done by Blake to a really high and caring standard. I could not recommend this dentist and in particular Blake enough!!

You've removed my 7 year old from your practice as an NHS patient, and in the same email offer a paid plan instead. No routine checkups in the pandemic, and immediately after leave us without a dentist, now struggling to find one as nobody takes NHS patients, not even the NHS.
We're left with no choice, but to go private. Clearly not with you though given how you handled this!
