Upon arrival for my emergency dentist appointment yesterday I was apologetic that I had forgotten my face mask, as instructed to wear from NHS 111, I was instantly replied with, “well how would we see your mouth if you was wearing one?”.
When being called into the dental room I was called a different name, which must have been miscommunication between the dental practice & NHS 111, I informed the dentist of my actual name in which I had the reply, “well, which would you prefer to be called?”.
As I was instructed to take a seat on the chair/bed, I was asked the reason for being there, I therefore started to explain the reason I was there but instantly told to stop & told “woah woah woah, I’ll ask you questions strategically & I’ll write it down”, therefore I was stopped from talking. The dentist asked me a series of questions, regimentally. When asked if I had had this dental issue previously I replied yes, many times, in which the response was, “well, why haven’t you had it removed!?”. I was then asked if I had been prescribed antibiotics in the ‘past’, in which I replied yes.
As the questioning was over I was then assessed inside my mouth, the dentist wasn’t concerned for my tooth abscess, I explained that I was not concerned about my tooth abscess as such but that I was worried about the pain I was still enduring. I explained I was on the 4th day of a 5 day antibiotic course, the dentist instantly said, “why didn’t you tell me that before, you said you wasn’t on antibiotics, why didn’t you tell me?”, I said because you asked if I had been on them in the past… in which she replied “the past as in now as well!”. The dentist also said I needed to give the antibiotic time to work, she said, “what’s it been, 2 days?!”, I said no it’s been since 2pm Thursday, my appointment was 10:20am yesterday so the antibiotic should have kicked in by then.
If the dentist had listened to me at the very start then she would have been aware of the reason I was there, as I said that I explained to 111 that I was needing advice on pain relief so I didn’t intoxicate myself by overdosing on what I was currently taking. The dentist response was, “NHS 111 do not explain the reason for you being here”.
I am absolutely disgusted that I went to an emergency dentist because I was experiencing severe tooth pain from an abscess. I was shut down instantly when I was trying to tell the dentist the reason for myself being there, not for the tooth abscess itself but the pain I was experiencing still, even after explaining I was taking strong painkillers. The rudeness from the dentist was horrid, I left feeling very stressed and upset which should not be the outcome when sourcing a need for help! I felt I was an inconvenience & questionable for why I was even there. The dentist was harsh, rash & a complete disregard for empathy. I was there for help, not to be patronised and experience such lack of care.
I would not recommend this dental practice & I will share my experience with NHS 111 to NOT send clients their if there is another choice.
The dentist took offending tooth out... and expressed that this was not the only dental issue he had!!
Whilst my partner was in the waiting room for needle to take effect he heard the dentist and dental nurse talking about him....Not very professional... anyway he is in bed now in worse pain that he was before....I am so glad they are not my dentist... maybe they should retrain in customer care and empathy...absolutely disgusted.
This was the dentist he was dropped at and he has the receipt...!!
If this is the case then yes it must have been. He went this morning at 11am... unfortunately with your name above the door it doesn't look good... I cannot believe the way he was treated... and he is still in agony now... 5 hrs on.
