Abergavenny Brewers Fayre

I had a dinner and breakfast here. Food is good and it has a good variety of selections even though they are running on limited menu at the moment. Breakfast is the usual English breakfast..good enough I guess.

First time visiting and won't be the last!
We didn't book and was unaware that we needed too but the staff made exeptions as we had travelled and got us a table for our family of 5!
The staff went out of their way each time from bringing us a booster chair to bringing small cutlery for our children.
The food was fresh, hot and tasty and we were beyond happy with the service and the meal.

Shocking! My fiancé, brother and i have just left after having a meal and we are disgusted. My fiancé and I have eaten there many times and it was lovely food, good sized portions too. Tonight I ordered what I always have, the smothered chicken. It was tiny, half burnt underneath, barely any cheese and maybe a few drops of bbq sauce. The salad was just some lettuce and a couple pieces of tomato, used to get a proper salad, with dressing. The coleslaw looked grey and nowhere near as big a serving as before. My fiancé’s mixed grill was dreadful. Both eggs were hard, the piece of gammon was tiny and black as the ace of spades underneath. It was brought to the table with peas after specifically asking for them to be swapped for beans. He said the peppercorn sauce left much to be desired and although upgrading from the 4oz steak to the 8oz, it looked tiny so not sure they changed it. My brother had the filled Yorkshire pudding and of the 3 meals, his did look the best but there was hardly enough gravy. My brother couldn’t even get a coffee because the machine was broken. There was no table check either. All in all it was an awful experience. What went wrong? Maybe a change of chef and better management would help. We were planning to have desserts but after the main courses, we promptly left. Best thing about it was probably the drinks! We won’t be back! We celebrated my parent's ruby wedding anniversary this evening in a party of 20! We were given a lovely area with space to set up the tables as we liked. The food arrived in good time, piping hot and absolutely delicious! It was our privilege to have the manager Lily look after us for the evening. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she was extremely friendly, accommodating and patient. Hands down the best restaurant service I've had. Lily is going places!!

Pros
+large dining area with a lot of tables! I mean a lot!
+very friendly staff and accommodating
+server at the carving area was quick and helpful, no line and spacious.
+pretty vegan friendly, ‘meat’ and gravy served separately.

Cons
-veg was cold which was disappointing as it looked so nice.
-paying took a while due to 1 person at the bar.

This was the tandoori mixed grill looks completely different to the one in the description and the photo on the menu. The cheesy spicy fries were the biggest disappointment as they had no cheese or chillies on them they were just a bowl of chips with curry sauce on top

We visited today for Christmas lunch. From first contact a few months ago to today we have had an amazing service from Sophie. She made us feel nothing was a problem and the food and service today was amazing. The whole staff there were happy nothing was too much and we couldn't have asked for more. Thank you to all for making us soo welcome xxx
