The wonderful welcome started long before we arrived with quick, clear communication and tonnes of useful information about the surrounding area provided ahead of our arrival.

As is to be expected in rural Devon, there was some nervy driving along small country roads to get to the property and the parking was on a dirt layby instead of in a car park but all very manageable and what you would expect from a country location. It is a minimum 15 minute drive to get to much of anything in the way of amenities or attractions. Again, I think this is to be expected when booking a farm stay.

Upon arrival the cottage was clean, quaint and cozy. It is rustic but with all amenities that we wanted plus anything we could possibly need for our 18 month old available on request (cot, high chair, baby monitor, baby gates etc). The kitchen, while definitely not packed with brand new appliances, was fully equipped and easy to cook in (and the local Indian Restaurant was delicious and a quick and easy delivery to the property on the night we didn't feel like cooking).

The property is lovely with a big central courtyard and a picnic table for your own private outdoor dining. Our little guy loved visiting the goats and chickens, playing on the climbing frame and making use of the well-stocked toy shed.

We visited during COVID and felt that they were extremely diligent and thorough in their precautionary measures.

Great place to stay, the courtyard had plenty of toys for our 3 year old, along with the trampoline, animals and the outdoor play equipment. The accommodation was modern and had everything we needed, scones weren't bad too! The electric car charger was also very useful and the location was great for many local beaches.

Our family of four, with 5 and 8 yr-old girls, stayed for one night in Russet Cottage at Mazzard Farm. It was kind of the owners to let us stay for one night only and to arrive late. We were on our way to a wedding so couldn’t stay longer. We had everything we needed and were very comfortable. We really regretted not being able to stay for longer and will be back! The only thing I would suggest is a larger sign outside but I don’t expect many people arrive in the dark on a cold winter night! Thank you to Ruud and family.

Really good place to stay. We stayed in Medlar cottage, which had really 2 v. comfortable double beds, a great kitchen, and nice sitting room too. Our hosts Ruud and Jacqueline were very responsive and helpful too! Perfect location - close to Exeter and Ottery St Mary, but also set out in the countryside. The cottage is attached to 5 others, so there isn't total privacy - but we liked having others around and there's a friendly atmosphere (especially if you have children!).

We had a great week at Mazzard farm. The booking process was easy. The cottage was clean and well appointed. Our 2 year old loved the animals, swings and toys in the barn. A great base from which to explore East Devon

Sadly we were left a little underwhelmed by our stay at Mazzard Farm. The grounds were very unkempt and a million miles from how it looked in the photographs, im sure it looked amazing 10 years ago but most of the children’s play items were either in poor derelict condition or buried under overgrown plants bushes and grasses.

The hamper with breakfast foods we hoped would be local produce or even from the farm itself however it was frozen mini pan au chocolat and sainsburys jam!

The ‘farm’ part goats & chickens was both fenced off and surrounded by nettles also so couldnt get close anyway.

The bbq areas were barely standing and hadn’t been used or cleaned for a long time and didn't encourage us to eat in the courtyard sadly, and the weather didn't help that either in mid august.

The luxury accommodation for the adults was a futon bed on the floor which sadly didnt feel too luxurious.

For the money overall we were very disappointed and wouldn't be likely to book again, we almost felt the providers had taken advantage of the travel restrictions and staycation popularity. Shame.

I stayed at Mazzard Farm for one of their photography Beginners Courses over the weekend 21 - 24 May. Having had a long journey (due to the M5 being gridlocked - Mazzard Farm had messaged me earlier in the day to warn me) I received a very warm welcome from Jacqueline. The cottage was spacious and well equipped and cosy on a wet and windy weekend. The soundproofing was excellent between the cottages, as there was a young family next door and I thought the distant crying I heard occassionally must be in another cottage across the courtyard. If only the sun had been out, I would have been able to appreciate the lovely outside seating area and garden, but unfortunately not. However, it was pleasant sitting on the window seat watching the bees on the wisteria - but would have been nicer if the window was open and I could have smelled the scent!

Ruud obviously enjoys photography as he popped in a couple of times to see how the course was going and I assume the lovely photos around the cottage are his. He also called in on the final evening with the 'Covid' instructions for vacating the cottage which were addressed to me personally - a nice touch.

Mazzard Farm is tucked away in a quiet spot in the hills above Ottery St Mary (but within walking distance if you are feeling energetic) and the atmosphere is very welcoming and restful. Ideal if you want to get away from it all - especially as the phone signal and WiFi are 'low level' but sufficient for any pressing needs.

A thoroughly enjoyable stay and I would certainly recommend this to anyone who was looking for some holiday accommodation in South Devon.
