Just had a fish & chip super tonight. Over many years I've had these from a lot of establishments and always enjoyed them. Tonight was a very different experience. My fish was fresh, nicely cooked and delicious. The chips were absolutely disgusting to the point if being inedible. Total mush and grease. If I lived nearer i would have returned them. For the princely sum of £9 it was a very bad experience.

Recommended. Amazing fish & chips, very friendly staff. I travel from Consett, I’ve also got my brothers who live in Gateshead coming here for fish & chips.

Fun to see the coal powered fryers after being featured on Michael Portillo’s railway show this week.
Delicious food, I took Mum and Dad who are up from East Anglia on holiday.
Loved it, proper trad and all the better for it. I had delicious Haddock, they both had cod. Real batter and tasty chips. Thanks, see you again soon.

The fish and chips that I had were the best in the area, I would 100% recommend these, same with the curry sauce. The cheesy chips however were just the chips with a cheese slice on top which was very underwhelming but the rest was great

After disappointing local chippies everyone said to go to Fields. Lovely old shop and coal fired fryers. It was a real shame the food wasnt up to the hype. We ordered before driving there (20 mins) but when we got there they were waiting for chips another 15 mins. Chips were pale and soggy , fish was also dry although batter did taste nice.
