Very reasonable prices and good portions. Staff are friendly. There is plenty of seating including outside. Toilets, highchairs for children available. Wheelchair access. Clean and tidy. Gets very busy at lunchtimes but the wait isn't that long about 10 minutes from sitting down to being served. Good location for Asdas etc including bus stopped across the old market Square.

Terrible delivery service. And food was burnt and dry. Ordered food at 6.50pm and after a couple of phone calls, finally arrived at 9 pm. There original excuse was they had no driver. Why offer delivery service if you have no driver. Avoid unless you like burnt cold and very late food.

Actually after waiting 15 minutes last week . And being the only two people in there incidentally we walked out . We hadn't been acknowledged in any way shape or form . Being ignored is the worst thing in any establishment.

I'm coming to a conclusion that you can judge a town buy it's fish and chip shops. Never again Hatefield! So after the fish and chip shop near ASDA gave me food poisoning, I tried this one for a delivery. Appleby's only gets it's second star because I didn't wish for death after eating it. But it was greasy old and you could tell that it had been left on the little heat rack for about 7 days. Also, can yo tell me how batter that is so greasy can come before fish that is so dry? Appleby's, so bad it defies physics.

Generous sized fish however noticed a huge difference between collection and delivery - on delivery, fish tends to be rather oily and quality of fish hasn't been so fresh on last few orders. Collection hasn't been an issue and quality has been much better and the only reason I'd perhaps order again. The complimentary tartare sauce sachets is a good service as I don't think competitors do this.
