Normally, l avoid deep fried foods because of that reason, but I tasted a chip from my husband's container and fell in love 😍 with the chips and promptly sent him back to buy me my own serving.
I can't comment on the fish as we only wanted chips after a nice long walk and drive in Penterry. But judging from the care and attention with which they cooked their chips, I bet that their fish will be lovely too.
Strongly recommend avoiding by as many miles as possible, food and staff not fit for human purpose.
They even used a filthy dirty cup/jug thing to measure out the luke warm chips (2 x £1.85/cup for a 'large' chips)
Totally overpriced but even though chip shops don't claim to be health farms this place is a health hazard due to the amount of retained grease in the dreadful food they serve (and its being kind calling it food rather than a grease feast)
Wish you could do minus stars - shocking experience never to be repeated
Upon entering the shop, we were greeted by a rude lady behind the counter. I have read other reviews, and noticed someone said the blond lady was the rude one. But no, don't be mistaken, for they are all rude! I'm not sure whether the lady serving us hadn't yet been given the customer service training course, but I suspect she just merely didn't care. I mean, who are customers at the end of the day? When filling the box with chips, she used a measuring cup to measure the chips - I was simply dumbfounded. I think I've been given shellshock. I simply cannot imagine how anyone could be so mean.
But it only starts there. We repeatedly asked for salt and vinegar. I think even a goldfish would have remembered that after we had said so for the fiftheenth time. But no, not our server! Finally, finally, finally we got our salt and vinegar!
And then, without even a thankyou, let alone a smile - imagine it! - the server shoved us our chips, sausages and curry sauce with a small grunt. We were glad to leave.
Upon arriving home, we tried the "chips". But, we were mystified. Was there any salt and vinegar on these? We kept on thinking we possibly detected traces of vinegar but we couldn't be quite sure - pheraps the server measured the vinegar out with a teaspoon also. Anyway, we choked our way through these, what I presume, is their version of chips. In desperation, I added some curry sauce, in the hopes it may, if not improve the taste, at least line my throat and help the chips go down faster. But, to my shock and horror, I discovered that the currcy sauce was contained with huge lumps of goodness knows what! It is indeed a mystery. Then the sausages. I can only presume they also carefully measure out the amount of batter allowed for each sausage. They were the greasiest, most thinly battered sausages I thought I have, and ever will, set eyes on. I simply couldn't finish my meal, for the chips were greasy, the sausage greasy, the sauce repulsive. I would feel mean feeding this so-called "food" to a pig!
There should be big red signs and sirens warning you about this fish and chip shop for miles around. There should be diversions on the motorway just to avoid going anywhere near this place. I have even considered moving house as I live within a 10 mile radius!
So all in all, my experience was simply awful - unimaginable, quite impossible to understand unless you yourself have been here. But I warn you, DONT! Stay well away! And woe betide anyone who does go near this place!
And lastly, I must pay my condolences to the people of Chepstow. I cannot imagine how hard it is having to share the same town with this awful fish and chip bar. You are in my thoughts
