Four friends and myself travelled from Dundee in Scotland down to a small village called Singleton in Lancashire to attend a really close friends funeral on 13th of December 2014.
We left Dundee at 2am giving ourselves plenty time to arrive safely, as the weather forecast was extremely bad for that particular night. We arrived in Singleton for around 7am giving us time to spare, so that we could get changed into our clothes for the funeral etc. We didn’t realise that Singleton was such a small village and that there were no facilities close by that we could use.
As my car was almost on the petrol light I didn’t want to be driving miles out of the way into Blackpool incase we missed the funeral that was due to start at 9am. We googled the closest service station which was Shell on Garstang Road at the traffic lights FY6 7SX so we drove there.
My friend Sarah went in to the garage first to use the facilities and to buy some cigarettes. Around ten minuets later I then went in and asked if it would be ok if myself and the other three girls could use the toilet facilities to get changed into our funeral clothes and fix our make up.
The man ‘Zuber’ behind the counter was extremely rude and told us that he ‘didn’t have toilet’ which was obviously a blatant lie as my friend Sarah had just been in just ten minuets before us and had used the facilities. I explained in a polite manner that my friend had already used the toilet to get herself ready and that there was no where else at this time in the morning for us to go and get ready as the funeral was starting early, I promised him that we would be quick.
Again the man was extremely rude and said ‘ no you are not using the toilet’. He did not give us any explanation as to why we couldn’t use the facilities.
The other customer in the garage at the time was shacking his head in disgust.
I feel if Zuber had explained to me in a nicer more polite manner the reasoning behind not being allowed to use the facilities, then I maybe could have understood, but the fact he was so rude and didn’t give me an explanation I personally think is extremely bad customer service. I would never dream of talking to a customer like that.
I went back to my car extremely upset at the way I had been spoken to. I had driven around 5 hours in extremely bad weather conditions, was already an emotional wreck at the idea of us attending my 24year old friends funeral only days before Christmas and to top it off, being refused to use the facilities to get changed for no reason I personally think is disgusting. We had nowhere else to go. We had to get changed into our funeral clothes at the side of Garstang Road in the freezing cold that morning. Shocking customer service! Would not recommend
Rare find these days I have come to learn.
