I visited to try out the new menu that has arrived at the Victoria. The food, as always, was absolutely exceptional, which is a reason why it’s one of my favourite pubs. Not only was the food amazing but the service from Erin and Reece was top notch. If you’re after beautiful scenery, outstanding food and great service then don’t hesitate to visit the Victoria!

We recently tried the new menu and we were really impressed with what we had.

Starters:
•PAN-FRIED WILD SCALLOPS: ras el hanout, smoked haddock Florentine bonbons, celeriac purée, apple & fennel tartare - £11.50
•ASIAN-STYLE CRISPY DUCK SALAD: cucumber & mooli ribbons, shredded carrot & cabbage, watercress, spring onion, plum,
sesame & hoisin sauce - £7.25

Mains:
•ROSEMARY AND BALSAMIC LAMB SHANK: maple roasted carrot, green
beans, creamy mash and a rich Bordelaise sauce - £22.95 (special)
•ROTISSERIE HALF CHICKEN: fries, rich chicken gravy, aioli - £14.50

Desserts:
•ICE CREAM & HOME-BAKED
TRIPLE CHOCOLATE COOKIE - £5.75
•STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING with honeycomb ice cream - £6.95

The scallop starter was cooked to perfection and the apple and fennel tartare was the perfect accompaniment to the seafood. The duck salad was light and fresh with the ideal amount of dressing and a good portion of duck, which was lean and flavoursome.

The mains were also delicious. The lamb fell from the bone, the mash was a golden buttery marvel, and the Bordelaise sauce had so much depth of flavour you’d drown! Honesty! Marvellous 👏🏽 The rotisserie was ordered with BBQ flavour which was a good balance of smoky and sweet. The chicken was moist and the gravy was another triumph from the chefs; a wonderful umami flavour that brought what could be a standard dish to another level.

The sticky toffee pudding was comfort in and bowl. The sauce wasn’t too sickly sweet and the honeycomb ice cream was a perfectly creamy compliment.

The staff were super friendly and attentive and Erin who took care of us was a credit to
The Victoria. We hope we are
sat in her section next time we visit.
We will definitely be visiting again because
we loved the menu and can't wait to try
more…We've got our eyes on the maple glazed pork belly & scallops, and the chicken, brie and bacon pie for next time.

The food was great and so was the service. Lesley looked after our table very well and even took group photos for us at our request. Great evening all round!

I came here with a friend who had dined here before and had a great experience. Unfortunately, our visit was incredibly lacking and I will not be visiting again.

We were seated and had our orders taken fairly quickly: my friend ordered the lamb and I ordered the steak sandwich. The waitress asked me what temperature I wanted the steak to be cooked to and I requested medium rare. We also ordered the camembert to share.

The camembert arrived and was quite nice. Unfortunately, when we were finished with it, the waitress came back and told my friend that she would need to choose a different main as the lamb was still frozen (not something I would expect from an establishment with such high prices) and could not be cooked. She requested the salmon instead, but, as they had waited until we were done with our starter to tell us this, we had to wait a little while for our main meals.

When our mains came, I bit into my sandwich to find that the meat was cooked well done, as opposed to the medium-rare that I had requested. I checked every price of meat and they were grey all the way through. I waited for someone to come and ask how the meal was, but no one came and I had to flag the waitress down to explain the issue. She didn't seem too bothered, didn't apologise for my order being wrong and only offered me a replacement after I stressed that this was not what I had requested. The new meal arrived almost instantly; however, it was exactly the same as the previous one. Completely well done.

This time, not only did no one come to check how the meal was, but no member of staff came to our portion of the restaurant for me to flag down. My friend ate her meal and I was left waiting. Unfortunately, she also did not like her meal, saying that the salmon was stringy as opposed to flaky and she felt like it may have also been frozen originally. After about 15 minutes I managed to speak to a member of staff: I asked for my meal to be taken off the bill as I had not eaten any of it. The waitress appeared disgruntled by this, saying she would check with her manager. She came back saying that they would take it off the bill, but that the kitchen said they were unable to cook the meat differently due to the cut and went as far as to say: 'This is our medium-rare'. Personally I feel that if you cannot cook the dish to the customer's liking, you shouldn't offer this when they order! Furthermore, there is no way that meat which is very clearly well-done can be passed off as medium.

When the bill came, we saw that my friend had been charged for the frozen lamb that she hadn't been served! This was altered after we raised the issue; however, it only added to our disappointment with our meal. Such a shame, as we'd really been looking forward to our lunch. We ended up eating somewhere else afterwards.

Visited last Friday and the staff were professional and attentive. Checking if we needed drinks and if our meal was good. Nice we had the same waitress the whole time. Great with allergies and selection of foods. I also love the vegan blackcurrant moose as I have dairy/egg intolerances so means I can have a pudding safely. Thanks for a great night ref ticket 127, AD653085

Took our dog for a long walk in the hills and looked for a nice dog friendly pub - coming across The Victoria.

Love the interior, so cosy and clean. The fire is stunning too. The staff were amazing from the moment we walked in. So lovely, friendly and welcoming.

So much choice for food, husband went for the pork and scallops and he loved them! I had a wee try of the scallops - delicious!
I went for the burger, and upgraded to billionaires fries - OHMYGOD delicious!!

Truffle mayo, parmesan cheese and prosciutto - it was phenomenal!
Would 100% recommend and we will be back!

Seriously tasty burger! Beautiful lovely pub with friendly staff and delicious food. The pictures don't do it just justice - apologies. One of the best pub burgers I have had in a long time. Bar area is dog friendly as well. Well worth a visit!

A first and a last for me. The last review of 2022 and my first meal out since my bypass surgery. We were sat by the radiator, which was a bonus as it was a cold day out. The bulb in the nearest light fitting was missing, so it was slightly dark. Nice clean, warm Gastro pub, though. The food was good, but I ordered Szechuan Squid, which tasted of no spice. The mains were good. Nice attentive service. I'd still go back one day.
