Helmsman Guesthouse

Lovely sea view room very clean, crisp white bedding . Breakfasts amazing every day in a lovely dining breakfast room, plenty of choice, and very attentive Alison was the perfect host/landlady
Could not find fault at all.

My friends stayed at this hotel and they came from London. I went out with them one night and had a little dog with me, they invited me back for drinks which was lovely and they weren't aware of the 'no dog' policy. This was definitely our fault but in the morning I took my dog out and wanted to get back to the room to get my things and the owner (lady) came out (bearing in mind her dog is in the living room at all times and barks at everyone going by... but apparently doesn't like other dogs!).
She stopped me and said no dogs were allowed, I apologised and said can I just go up to my friends room and get my things (as I didn't even have a phone on me!) And we would leave. She said no and that no dogs were allowed in the building. I apologised again and asked if she could kindly look after my dog while I quickly went to get my things...she said no! I explained I had no phone and no way of contacting my friends.

She said this wasn't her problem.I was horrified and was left outside with nothing. I had to go upstairs and get my things and she said...OK I'm calling the police!! When friends left the next day she apologised apparently for her actions, I was in tears and not a good human being. I understand we weren't meant to be there but have a little sympathy!
Awful place. Please support other Aberystwyth places and not this one as people make mistakes and I was not aware of the rules but the owner was truly horrifying!
They will reply saying this was due to covid regulations but I was wearing a mask...she was not.

Location and host were amazing! Wonderful seaside town. Breakfast was cooked to order and fabulous. Highly recommend

Ideal location on the promenade. Hotel is very clean everywhere. Rooms are comfortable. No car park but free overnight on the promenade. An inexpensive 24hr public car park is a 5 minute walk away. Breakfast is great!
Great value (book direct for best price).

A lovely guesthouse with reasonable prices, right next to the shore of Aberystwyth. I enjoyed my stay very much, the effort they did on their full English breakfast was lovely. I could borrow an adapter for UK sockets for free, very polite. TVs in every room. Rooms were clean and tidy. I would fully recommend this guesthouse if you're looking for a reasonably priced accomodation in Aberystwyth.

Had to get somewhere to stay at short notice in Aberystwyth, glad we found the Helmsman. It was so nice we went back for another night (the second time we were lucky enough to have a 2 bedroom apartment 😁). Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Rooms decorated to a high standard, super bathroom in main house room. Spotlessly clean. Weird noises from the plumbing in adjacent rooms but it's an old house, so to be expected.
Breakfast was hot and freshly cooked.
The apartment is high spec with a fabulous 6ft bed in the ensuite room, my only gripe is that both bathrooms have 'standard' size showers.

Lovely clean & comfortable accommodation in an excellent location with fabulous sea views. Very friendly & helpful host. We look forward to returning again in the future.

This is an absolute gem. Warm welcome, bedroom superb, breakfast cooked fresh, perfect location. Extremely safe with regard to covid and obviously spotlessly clean. Difficult to think of any problem whatsoever. It was a pleasure to stay here.
