I've been a student for two years with Dan Joseph and have found him to be a great teacher. Professional, intuitive and fun, each lesson Dan identifies my needs as a developing guitarist and singer, pushing me further to improve. Dan is nurturing, positive, enthusiastic in our sessions. My Guitar is accomplished and enjoyable now and I'm taking on songs I thought too challenging in the past.

Music is picked from Dans favourites, at the right level at every stage of my progression. Looking at different grades syllabi and my own choices, I enjoy all songs learnt, and now perform for family and friends.

Dan is flexible and changes days and times to suit when my work dictates.

Dan has become a good friend, with music becoming an integral part of my spare time.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Dan Joseph in teaching any aspiring musician.

Dan is an excellent musician and an accomplished teacher of guitar and piano for my children, aged 15, 12 & 9. He has patience and a good sense of humour (which helps a lot). He seems equally at home teaching young children, teenagers or adults. Dan can teach a wide range of styles and has guided my two sons through ABRSM classical exams, where they achieved high grades. He has also covered Rockschool guitar with them, covering rock and pop on both acoustic and electric.

Dan is an absolutely superb guitar, bass and vocal teacher and all round good guy. My middle son Jack (now approaching 18) has been taking weekly music lessons from Dan for about three years now, and has a very diverse love of music ranging from Elvis to Simon and Garfunkel to Metallica. He considers Dan a friend, as do I, and outside of weekly lessons Dan has involved Jack in public concerts, with the most recent being for a street party celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Dan teaches both playing and singing in his lessons, as he is very active in the music scene himself, and whilst Jack is still in training, we are no longer (a) attracting nearby dogs when Jack sings, or (b) having well meaning citizens ringing our door bell anxious if someone was in extreme pain. All credit to Dan for that alone, my ears no longer ache when Jack sings.

When it became apparent Dan had ignited a real passion in Jack, we bought his first new bass guitar. Dan gave free, impartial and very sound advice as to the most appropriate instrument, and where to look, purely with Jack’s best interests at heart.

After taking Rockschool Grade 3 Bass Jack also craved for an electric guitar, hatched a cunning plan that ironically involved me paying for one! It has been worth the investment as the increased range and quality of what Dan is teaching him, and the pleasure he and we as a family get from his ability. We had a family BBQ with my parents visiting us recently on one of the actual sunny weekend days for 2016 and, after eating, we spent about three extremely enjoyable hours singing along to what Jack was playing (even some of the neighbours joined in over the fence).

Jack has also taken on electric acoustic guitar, and he has recently advised me that he wants a "really big guitar collection". I haven't yet managed to glean from Jack whether this is a collection of ‘really big’ guitars, or a collection of guitars that happens to be large in number as a group, so will report back once this becomes clear.

Jack plays all his instruments extremely proficiently, able to play tricky guitar parts of pretty much any song from any era that he either works out by ear or searches for online. Dan focuses on the type of music and songs that Jack wants to learn to play, selecting songs that will challenge him, rather than only sticking to a formulaic structure.

I can’t think of any reason why I would cease using Dan’s services, as he is an absolutely fantastic teacher and has been a really positive influence on my son.

Dan teaches me acoustic guitar. He is excellent. He is focused on clear teaching methods but at his core he is all about musicianship and musicality. For me, that has meant me starting from scratch and now being able to perform in public (pubs and the like) and with friends. His structured approach means I am motivated and enjoy the lessons every time. Dan has widened my horizons with his knowledge of different genres of music and how to play in a range of styles. He is very generous with his time and our lessons usually run over. He supports my pub performances in person (and for free) and this reflects his commitment. He sends me electronic files of our practice run-throughs so I can review them in the week and rehearse alongside them, as well as sending other motivating resources. I don't recognise the comments in an earlier review at all - I guess you can't please all the people all of the time. I really don't think it's fair for them to post an oddly grumpy review based on what looks like fairly limited experience, and nothing said reflects my own experience for this popular teacher. Anyway I'd say 5 stars, no question.

Dan has been teaching my 12 yr old daughter Helenjoy singing. He really teaches technique and is enthusiastic in every lesson. My daughter is a little shy and after 3 lessons with Dan I was hoping that she would really take what she learns from Dan and start practicing at home..What sealed the deal with Dan was that the lesson apart from being a music lesson was great fun.And she enjoyed the lesson and being with Dan so much it has ignited her interest to practice and sing more at home. And she really does know techniques about breathing and warm ups that is great to see.her put into practice like she's known how to do it since the beginning of time! Dan is great fun and we have not known him long but my Family consider him to be a friend. We highly recommend him to you.

I came to Dan a year ago with a hope that he could help to improve my voice which was somewhat strained after years of leading music in my Church. Dan has given me far more that I expected; not only is he a skilled and professional musician, but he is also a really good voice coach who knows his stuff and how to impart it to jaded old blokes like me! I have had such fun and have learnt so much and I am very grateful for his input. He has also helped me to adjust my guitar playing style . I feel like a proper musician!! Smooth onset will be the way forward!! God bless him and I highly recommend him to anyone, young and old who loves music and wants to get better at it!

I’ve been studying acoustic guitar with Dan for six months now after initially booking a block of 10 lessons at the start. Dan is a patient, experienced, fun and professional teacher. He customises my lessons to my favourite songs. It’s great fun playing my preferred indie rock songs, Dan always gives me a push and plays along with me. I’m really pleased with Dan’s approach and in a short time I’m now working on finger style too. Due to my hectic family and work schedule I’ve sometimes asked to move/shuffle our appointments and Dan is always accommodating.
He’s been a great teacher and reignited my passion for playing guitar so I’m very happy to recommend him.

Lessons with Dan are always fun and productive.
Johnny has plenty of ideas on guitar, and is now reaching new levels of skill with challenging songs.
He is now able to play classic acoustic songs accurately. The techniques Dan has taught him help Johnny to perform them with ease.
