"Friendly and helpful staff" according to the website. Well I know different.
I went in to buy some rubber stoppers. Staff doesn't even great you or look up. Found the stoppers that were priced at £0.60. Came to till that wanted to charge me £1.25. The manager was condescending and plainly rude to me and refused to sell it for that price. Congratulations middletons you've saved yourself from a loss of £0.65 but lost a customer for life in the process. Try and be friendlier (start by acknowledging them) to customers.

Fantastic shop, three floors crammed - and I mean CRAMMED - with hardware. Everything from nails to mouse traps. Household item breaks a part - they probably have a replacement here. The staff are absolutely delightful; the young lad who goes so far out of his way to help, to the lady who seems to know the exact location of every item in an inventory that must easily stretch into the tens of thousands of different items! Even if you don't need anything, its worth a visit as entering Middletons is like stepping back into a time when all high-street shops were independent, offered outstanding personal customer service, and had products that lasted. I love MIddletons - a little piece of Kendal history that I hope never changes.

Staff and management rude and unhelpful. Had it several times were things have been priced wrong and the reply has always been rude. After asking for help with finding items I've had none. I'm fed up with going here and being treated in this manner. Avoid avoid avoid!

This place reminded me of when i was young. I only wanted two bolts l, nuts and washers. They charged per item and then put them in a bag. Absolutely fantastic.

Really helpful and had everything I needed, good selection of led light bulbs and big selection of bolts and plasterboard wall fittings.

I think there must be at least one or two rogue employees there, because there are some reviews here saying "amazing customer service" and others here saying "the rudest and least helpful staff ever". I went there recently looking for some specific screws but didn't have the exact details. I got one of the rude employees. Older guy, sat in office upstairs. Didn't greet me or anything. Looked at me with disdain and contempt before I even spoke because I dared to be in his shop. I asked about what I was looking for, he was very rude and condescending in his obstructive and unhelpful response. I've used Middletons before and found some great things there, but I wont be going back after the last interaction. Unbelievably contemptuous attitude, staff need customer service training.

Had a wonderful experience with the miserable older gent hiding in the upstairs office earlier today who repeatedly talked over me and wouldnt allow me to finish a single question.
If youre looking for help before making a purchase, I suggest first taking his advice and "go watch a youtube video", when youre done you can purchase whatever you need from amazon for half the price.
