Small place but holds a lot of history and good for photography as well. Parking is available as well but I don't think you need to pay more then an hour max unless you are looking to spend more time in the nearby High Street. Overall a good experience.

Stumbled upon this place. Perfect to take photos. Free to just wander through.

A peaceful spot to spend a short time, just behind the main city centre and station. One of my favourite spots in the area with some interesting history.

Striking and very photogenic ruins of a priory church founded in the 12th century, located in a small park a short distance from Colchester town center. Information boards around the site provide detail on the priory's history. Entry is free and the priory is open all day.

St Botolph's Priory was the first Augustinian monastery in Britain and stands in the heart of modern Colchester. The priory was founded around the year 1100 and represents an excellent example of early Norman architecture.

The wonderful Romanesque columns of the abbey church still stand to their full height, and there are remnants of medieval tracery in several of the windows. The west front is particularly impressive, with empty niches for statues that have long since disappeared.

The priory ruins are on Priory Street, at the bottom of Queen Street, only a short stroll from the Colchester tourist information centre and castle. The priory is accessible at any time.

An interesting ruined priory church (the church attached to a monastery) set in a small park that is very conveniently located in Colchester town centre next to the Britannia car park. The rest of the monastery was completely demolished in 1536 during Henry the eighth's 'Dissolution of the Monasteries'.
There are some interesting information boards around the site explaining the history of it but as it's so close to town centre shops, cafes etc there are no other facilities.
Overall a nice place to take photos and look around.

A Norman French priory constructed partly from repurposed Roman bricks and conveniently located adjacent to Colchester Town railway station.

There is plenty of green space from which to admire the photogenic ruins, along with benches and information about the priory's history.
