It was a great little place, we arrived early and had it to ourselves, great architecture, definitely worth a visit if you're in the area, dogs loved it too, you get a good idea of what it used to look like.

Great ruins to walk around we had the place to ourselves it was peaceful and relaxing to walk around free of charge little lay by to park in then just walk down the side half way down is the entrance. Lots of history plaques on the walls. Enjoy.

Whether you are visiting to learn about the history of this place, take in its peaceful surroundings or just for a game of hide and seek with the kids, you'll be sure of a great visit here!

The complex dates from the mid-1300s, this was the main seat of power for the local area. The palace was surrendered to the crown in the mid-1500s as part of Henry VIIIs dissolution of the monasteries. The site appears to have been ruined since the late 1600s.

Car parking is available immediately outside the Bishops Palace and access to the site is free.

Lovely ruins to walk round. Parking right outside free and free to enter. A little confusing how to get in but once in we were completely alone for most of the visit, surprised more people weren't there. Unstaffed and not as much information as would be preferred on site about each area but the website does offer some history.
Dog friendly, quiet, beautiful old ruins. A must see if you're in the area.

There is free parking for maybe 10 cars just out side of the best Western Gates, looks like a layby. You walk down along the wall that is directly opposite the best western Gates to get into the grounds. Its free to enter. Large field that is well maintained (short and healthy looking). A few information boards dotted around, would of liked to have had a few more though, but it's free so I can't really complain. plenty of stairs to climb and rooms to walk around, some gorgeous architecture, if you have a keen eye you will see some beautiful little details. We was there by ourselves, we went late morning. The kids are keen to return.

The ruins can be visited free of charge and explored on your own. The remains of the former bishop's palace can also be visited with children. There is a sign with an overview map and every now and then a note telling you which part of the palace you are in, but otherwise there is very little to explain. I found that a bit of a shame. Otherwise, everything is well maintained!

A great place to chill for a while. The kids loved playing hide and seek among the ruins. No food available, so bring your own if you fancy a picnic.

Wow! What a lovely quiet and secluded location! You would never know it was there.
I'd recommend taking a picnic on a nice day as it's so quiet and such beautiful scenery.
Free parking and dog friendly.
