It's very small but fun. Staff friendly and helpful. Free car park. Has a small souvenir shop.

I really enjoyed visiting this museum with my little family. We probably spent less then an hour here but in this time we; tried on police uniform, solved a crime, took our own fingerprints, found jewellery, coloured in, played with toys and of course found out a little bit about police history.

Small but good fun, there’s a number of activities to complete for the kids

The Essex County Police Force Museum is small but there is quite a bit packed in. Loads of objects on display including truncheons, uniforms, and equipment from different points in the history of Essex policing.
There is a good amount of information on each of the exhibits, a mock up crime scene, uniform to dress up in, a craft area for the kids and even a mock up of a police station cell (so there's somewhere to leave the kids!)
The museum is located on the force's HQ site, it's a bit out of the way but not too bad.

Admission is free (though donations are appreciated.)

We happened to be going past on a Saturday and decided to go and have a look. (We had talked about it many times before!) There is a car park outside which is free and the museum itself is free to enter.

The museum is small but they have crammed a fair amount in, and made it as friendly as possible for the small people visiting. Your not likely to be there hours, but its certainly worth a look if in the area. Kids particularly enjoyed doing their fingerprints and using a light and magnifying glass to look at the displays!

We finally went to the police museum for the first time despite having lived here for 10 years. My daughter absolutely loved it and it was a really welcoming atmosphere for the children. The exhibits are really interactive and encourage the children to get hands on with things. They can try on uniforms, stand in a witness box, have their fingerprints taken. The museum also put on a lot of activities for children young and old.

Lovely little place to take the kids when you're looking for something different to do. We visited when they had some art activities on at Easter time, and it was lovely. Quite small, but still lots to do.

Small interesting nicely presented museum located within Essex Police Headquarters. Well worth at least an hour. Caters for kids well. Free entry. Saturday's only.

Very poor. Museum was supposed to open at 10.00, we arrived at 10.20 and everything was closed. Other visitors were also arriving and leaving. I telephoned the Museum but it went straight to answerphone. A complete waste of a 60 mile round trip.
