Really gorgeous holiday house. We stayed in winter and it was everything we could have hoped for. Lovely log fires in all the main rooms, comfiest beds imaginable and fab walks all around the house, including down to a cute country pub!

To the side of Gogwell house is a public footpath. Today we used this path for a lovely country walk. As we approach the bottom of the garden where the pool is we were surprised to see people. We asked if it was ok to walk through the gate at the end and were told "well your there now" in a rather rude way. After thinking we maybe on the wrong path " we weren't" we wanted to back track and were confronted by an elderly couple who told us NO you need to find your own way. This meant cutting through muddy fields which had electric fencing. Unfortunately one of our dogs got caught on one of these fences and got very upset. The right of way is for the public to use please remember this.

Where to even start, we had the best weekend here and if you’re contemplating booking, just do it.

A group of 12 of us (6 couples) stayed here for a long weekend and we all wished we’d booked at least a week! It is one of the most peaceful places I’ve been and the grounds and views are stunning, we spent most of our time outdoors either playing croquet, in the (much bigger than expected) pool, laying out on the lawn watching the peacocks and swallows or sat under the huge veranda watching the sun go down listening to owls.

The house itself is beautiful, spacious and everything has been done up to such a nice standard that it feels so homely and welcoming. Every bedroom is a good size and has incredibly comfy beds, me and my partner had the master suite and felt like we were in a luxury hotel room complete with huge ensuite with roll-top bath and dressing room (which can also be used as a nursery with cot and small childrens bed).

The kitchen had absolutely every single thing you could need and made cooking for a large group a pleasure, having this open plan with the dining room also made it a great place for drinks, games and socialising in the evenings.

I feel like I don’t have enough words to do Gogwell justice, but I’m writing this with serious holiday blues and we just can’t wait to come back one day!

WHAT A PLACE!! This has to be the best place I have ever stayed in England! The views, the property, the pool! It was an absolute dream!

If you’re considering staying - JUST BOOK IT! You won’t regret it.

The house is so well kitted out and literally has everything you want!

The bedrooms are all stunning and even the showers are next level!

Also, where can you stay and have peacocks just roaming around making the view even better.

We spent our time either in the pool, playing croquet on the lawn of having serious ping-ping tournaments!

I will be back!

We booked Gogwell house for the platinum weekend for a family birthday. There was 10 adults and 4 children .
I have to say this place is absolutely lovely. The house is in excellent condition The facilities at the house give you everything you will need for an amazing time. A lot of the past reviews have only great things to say about the bedrooms, lovely bedding, the luxury bathrooms the excellent kitchen utilities and in my opinion are 100% correct.
The garden is huge and there is so much room for the kids to play, but also for the adults to easily play their games as well.
The Heated Pool is a great size, estimated 15m in length with shallow ends at both ends and an aprox 2m depth in the middle. Again loads of room to lounge about on the provided sun beds.
The house is a very social house with 2 large living rooms with large tvs with netflix, there is a huge kitchen, dining room and table that we managed 14 round (can be more) this then leads out onto the huge veranda with seating 3 fire pits and electric heaters and amazing views.
When communicating with max she will also put you in touch with someone that can provide cooked evening meals. We managed to find an Indian that would deliver, We also made use of the bbq (non gas). We used the local pub (aprox 2 miles away) The Butterleigh inn, It does have restricted hours we booked ahead and the food was excellent.
We also rented the barn as an extra bedroom that also has a lovely bathroom, and a yoga studio this is just a few steps away from the back door to the main property. There is also a kitchen that is nearly finished in the barn.
Their is a games room with dartboard and table tennis table. They also supply loads of games for example crochet, darts, garden badminton, boules, to name but a few.
A couple of years ago i rented a house for just friends and i believe this house would be suited for that group as well family's.
So overall this house is amazing and you really wont regret renting it

The best family stay ever in a beautiful and very comfortable house with the most breathtaking views. There is so much to do at Gogwell. We used the huge pool every day, played all the games and ate every meal on the verandah to the sound of swallows, sparrows and even the peacocks! We had an 80th birthday to celebrate and Camilla Sharpe catered for a magnificent family lunch. We left Gogwell with many happy memories.

A truly great escape, nestled in an amazing valley somewhere in far far away land.

Bar, pool, croquet, table tennis, badminton, boules, dreamy sofas for well deserved naps after a hard day’s inflatable flamingo racing. Barbie, fire pit, chimeras and cards before sinking into cloud like beds.

You don’t want to leave but we had to burst the Gogwell bubble a couple of times. The spoils were worth it. Halberton’s farm shop steaks on the barbie! Covered market in Tiverton for artisan products and local fruit/veg inside and a great fish monger van (one day, can’t remember which).

Max mentioned a couple of lovely sounding local pubs but Gogwell pulled us back. With an enormous kitchen and pantry, two ovens and Aga and the luxury of time to get creative we preferred to stay in.

Max suggested some great walks and in our heads we wanted to. The walk through the cornfield looked dreamy or the fly rod obligatory walk along wooded, private river bank but again, Gogwell’s pull was too strong. We found ourselves falling into a leisurely, lazy rhythm. A week took both an age and sadly, flew by.

The house has been recently and cleverly renovated to feel homely and serene with nothing but table tennis rivalry to harsh the vibe.

A big thank you to Max and her team for creating such a lovely experience.

A wonderful family holiday week in August, Gogwell is perfect in every way! We were a little unlucky with weather after such a fantastic Summer, but that's life! There was plenty to do & we all had a great time, pet Rosie too..!! The week just went far too quickly!! Would love to return another year....🤞😊
