We booked last minute, spur of the moment without our usual checks and so glad we did, don’t be put off by other reviews. this is a very friendly campsite, small and perhaps a little quirky but charming with great scenery and some lovely walking. All topped off with one of the best breakfasts we’ve had in ages delivered to our door.

As a solo young female camper I can say I have warned all my female friend campers and will not be staying again.
The male owner showed me around, the showers he told me you had to pay 50ps for 2mins shower etc. His comment was that if needed help in the shower to give him a shout and winked at me. He then added don't worry I'll wear my socks. He couldn't keep his eyes at my face, they were everywhere and it made me feel very vaulnerable.
His wife seemed nice and once he had left and I'd set up I felt much better. This was my first solo camping trip and I wish it had gone better. I wish I had read the reviews beforehand to be honest.

I will be making a formal complaint and requesting a refund.

To add: after making a formal complaint I was replied to supposedly by him and his wife. The email basically said I was lyeing and made threats to warn other sites about me. I've never come across a site owner so horrible and the proffessionalism is disgusting.

I only saw Four in a Bed today.....I love glamping but to see your attitude and how miserable looking you were was unreal. The shower being too high was ridiculous. If you are on your own surely you could ask the host to help. You are such an unhappy looking couple.

Recently stayed here, after being woken up to harry laying next to me and saying morning, he happily served me a coffee but then made me pay wakey wines priced at £17.50 for a cup of coffe, then put my tight jeans on and got barked at by harry. Harry is rude

Absolutely lovely place to stay Carole and Harry are the best hosts. Even though they must have despaired at us at breakfast they still made us feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble! Would definitely recommend to anyone staying here and would absolutely come back - we need to seek out the singing tree next time. Thank you to both of you again.

Had a really nice stay at Smithson Farm. The hosts were lovely and helpful, the site was clean and well cared for, the lodge we stayed in was well supplied and comfortable, didn't get the food but it smelled great! Bear in mind that even in a pod or lodge, this is more like camping than like a chalet stay, as due to planning constraints they are not allowed to set up running water to the pods or lodges (come on though planning guys, honestly what negative impact Is it going to have??) so all washing has to be done at the shower block. If you're OK with camping, though, this is a great place for you. Big learning point for us was how absolutely lovely turkeys are as there are free-range turkeys (as well as chickens) roaming the site. Recommend for a chilled-out time.

Liked: The owners were friendly, everything was clean and well set out with attractive flowers around the site. The double bed was very comfy, the bunk beds were hidden away ingeniously to save space. Having a seating area inside was really useful for a chilly evening, but with the option of a table and benches outside for when it was warmer. There is a fridge, though it is outside, and the toilet/shower facilities were clean and spacious.

Disliked: Using 50 pence pieces to operate the shower meant you couldn't turn it off once you were finished, you had to wait for the 50p to run out. This meant there was some wasted water.

I have just returned from Smithson Farm with my little boy after spending two weeks there in my caravan. Originally we were only going for five days but decided to extend our stay as we loved it so much! (We've also booked to go back again in two weeks!)
The owners, Harry and Carole, along with Keith and Debbie who work there, are wonderful people. You would be hard pressed to find anywhere with a warmer welcome. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they work hard to make the site as fabulous as it is.
The site is really peaceful with beautiful views of the Lancashire hills. The breakfast in the cafe is faultless (and definitely fills your belly!) The mining museum is quirky, full of character, informative and interesting and it's clear that a lot of hard work has gone into making it what it is.
The showers and toilets are always spotlessly clean, the grounds of the site are really well kept and the beautiful flowers are well cared for.
My little boy especially loved the turkeys, chickens, ponies, parrots and dogs!
Honestly, I can't recommend this place highly enough! Only just home and already missing it. Can't wait to go back in two weeks!
