I am a former registered nurse with twenty years NHS service prior to a career change.

I attended Barts hospital, Cardiology Department as an outpatient.

Appointment letter stated appointment 12 Noon but arrive 15 minutes early. I arrived at 11.40am. Rebuked by person at cardiology reception for arriving so late. Eventually they conceded there was an error at their end but I received no apology.

Other staff with whom I interacted that day displayed a range of emotions varying from complete disinterest to downright hostile - with the exception of the X-Ray team (Radiographer, Student Radiographer and Receptionist) who were very pleasant people.

It has been downhill all the way since that encounter back in September 2021. It just gets worse and worse.

They should rename the place St Jude's - in honour of the patron saint of hopeless causes.

I am a doctor and another doctor asked me to speak to an ENT Consultant with regard to a tinnitus issue making someone suicidal, the 'lady' who answered in the ENT Department asked for my NHS number to access my medical records!!!! I refused and explained the situation over and over but it made no difference what so ever!!! As such we have a gentleman bordering suicide due to this robotic receptionist!!! I do not know how she sleeps at night!

I'm a disabled man, amputee, wheelchair-bound with incontinence problem.
I don't have a wheelchair from Newham Wheelchair Service nor incontinence pants.
Not any help for me and my paralysed partner.

My husband had heart surgery there. At first he was looked after very highly, but after the operation after care the nurses was so moody had no respect it was like he was a caged up animal where they have treated him so badly had to bring him home soon as possible. They chose that career to be a nurse if they can’t keep up to it and putting patients life at risk they should leave.

My mother had brain surgery in this hospital 2years ago just before the pandemic started. Now 2 years later she has had no follow up scan to ensure her tumour has not grown back. They send her appointments then just cancel them weeks before she is due let alone that, they are not even face to face. They stated when they done surgery she will receive yearly checks to make sure no growth is appearing. We have had to go private as my mother had alot of pains in her head also to ensure there is no growth, and this hospital refuse to help! Not 1 face to face check up in over 2years is absolutely disgusting! People can NOT use the pandemic as an excuse no more as everywhere is open everywhere is running as normal! If you can go shopping or to a club and be surrounded by people im sure you can do a scan on someone recovering from surgery! i am fed up and disgusted by the lack of care this hospital has for its patients/ex patients
I also do not understand these telephone appointments. Are you able to see if there is a tumour growing back over the phone now. 😒🤔 Also i only gave 2 stars because my mother came out of surgery alive, or i would have given 1!

Google was the only place I could find where you can leave an honest review on Bart's and NHS as a whole. The nurses in my experience pre COVID and during covid are the worst. I honestly don't know why they get praised so much. They lack professionalism and the very basic patient care. They actively lie on reports or any incident reports. But they are able to get away with it because they have the backing of the government and we have created this false sense of guilt associated with saying anything negative against Bart's or NHS as a whole. My experience is based on a number of months pre COVID. I just feel sorry for anyone who had to go in during COVID. If you have suffered at the hands of BARTs or NHS, know that you are not alone. Hope that brings some comfort.
