YHA Rowen is a hidden gem! I stayed here with some friends in the summer of 2012 and it was by far my favorite hostel stay. Its not really like a typical hostel - its a small converted farmhouse on the top of a hill run by a volunteer warden. But at hostel prices! The views are amazing, the setting is peaceful, and there are trails you can take all the way to Conwy if you want.

Amazing views from the hostel on the really top of the hill, very very steep even to come by walk here, narrow streets. There is a pub down the hill, kitchen close early, make sure you bring your own food or get in time for the pub dinner.

Stayed here over the summer of 2017 - just for a night. It was a wonderful place, off the beaten track and a decent walk to the village but the views are amazing and this is the sort of place I think of when I think of youth hostels: clean, tidy, friendly staff, amazing views and really in the heart of the countryside. A magical place and a credit to the YHA.

Be warned the road upto YHA Rowan is narrow and very very steep. If there are more than 2 cars up there it gets very tricky to turn around. If you are in a group consider parking all bar one of your cars in the village. My focus didnt enjoy the 1st gear ascent :( Also be aware that a farmer and his family live on the hill. Hes a great guy and offered for us to park a car in his farm. His only request was that the guy (not in our group) who had a range rover slowed down and refrained from driving after visiting the local pub! A fair request given he has 2 young children. Pays to be respectful for the locals who live in the areas we go on holiday too. As for the accomodation itself; great!! :D kind of what you expect from the YHA

Well maintained and equipped. Good drying room. Spectacular views from the front garden over the Conwy estuary. Ancient stone circle and burial chamber within an hour's walk. Note access road is extremely steep. 1 in 3 in places. Grass parking for perhaps 4 cars next to hostel.

Decided to book three nights at Rowen and enjoyed every moment , views amazing and assistant manager Brian made my son and I very welcome ( private room was perfect and beds very comfortable, ), facilities great and kitchen, bathrooms and lounge all great , even had a campfire in garden with amazing views which we enjoyed using on our last evening , enjoy your visit , yes the lane is very steep and care required when driving but just leave car in village if worried ! , Snowdonia and Snowdon amazing , get yourself there !!

Had an amazing few nights stay there recently with a group of friends. The hill up there is a killer but otherwise it's a great spec with amazing views of the valley. Great walks in the surrounding area and plenty to do depending on what you fancy. We headed to Lanberis for a day on the lakes. one of the best things were the stars at night we were Lucy with the weather and the sky was so clear it was incredible. Highly recommended

Fantastic few nights spent there this weekend. Steep hill to get there so be prepared to park outside the farm and walk up. But absolutely beautiful views and the stars on a clear night are a marvel to see, highly recommended
