The Old Tollgate Hotel Steyning

A real gem of a country hotel. The service from all departments was fantastic with the staff being both professional and friendly. The room we had was lucky air conditioned which was great. All the meals we had in the hotel where spot on.

The hotel also has a great beer garden with plenty of shade options.

All in all cannot wait to go back

Check their socials for any upcoming events. Since the new bar and canopy tent have been put up in the garden, there’s been a number of terrific garden parties. These include live bands and a bouncy castle for the kids. Great fun! I wouldn’t recommend missing it this summer!

We have just had our wedding reception at The Old Tollgate, and can't praise them highly enough. The food was amazing as usual and the service was impeccable. The staff were always helpful, but I must thank Rachel Alcantara who helped us plan the occasion. She was so friendly and professional and guided us through the whole process. Everyone went over and above to make our wedding reception such a special event.

In a picturesque but accessible location this hotel was however a mistake for a four night stay. It offered a carvery in the dining room plus a separate bar menu. Unfortunately at the time of our visit the bar menu was severely reduced, so we limited our carvery experience to one night only. It was good carvery food, just too much for 4 nights.

Well what can I say ? Excellent food, great attentive staff. Good location, a pleasure to see old values still being applied.
Had a few issues with our room which we advised reception about.

This was our first visit here after being recommended to come by friends. We were made to feel very welcome as soon as we arrived and were promptly shown to our table. Our server Charlie was friendly and very efficient. The food selection was very good, generous portions were served up and the food tasted great! It was busy as it was a Friday lunchtime and we thought we may have a wait to get our food but this wasn’t the case. We thought how well run it was with so many people to cater for and that even though all the members of staff were working hard there were plenty of smiles to be seen which is nice. Well done to everyone involved and we look forward to coming back soon!

Got together with friends to enjoy early Christmas meal. Food was good apart from the roast beef, which none of us could eat as it was so tough, even after the waitress brought us steak knives we couldn't cut it. Chef was quite rude to me, he made an unnecessary remark which spoilt the whole experience. Apart from that rest of the staff were very helpful

Loved it , just a last minute booking for a one night stay , cost and location fine and the breakfast was amazing spoilt for choice with the selection on offer. Room was spacious and bathroom was modern with a fantastic shower 🚿 well worth the money , if I'm in the area again I'll definitely be looking it up .
