It would be unfair to rate this place only 1 star, because really the hotel barely deserves more, BUT the Staff do!
We arrived at the Hotel and walked into a warm dining room with an open fire, and immediately felt that it was a warm and cosy place, however we soon realised within a matter of minutes that the fire was in fact polluting the room with smoke that quickly gave me and my partner a sore throat, and my 9 year old child complained of her eyes stinging.
We were shown to our room and found the door wide open waiting our arrival. Normally this wouldn't be a problem for us, but the smoke from 3 stories down had made it's way up to our room and we found everything smelled like a bonfire. There was no heating except for an electric heater which was turned off. We had to open all windows to clear the room of smoke and have the heater on full to keep it above freezing level.
The double bed had a very worn and uncomfortable mattress which gave my partner a very bad nights sleep, and I myself was finding it hard to get unbroken sleep. Our biggest complaint would be the shower, which hasn't been cleaned in a very long time. The mould along the bottom was bad, but the grime on the tiles was disgusting. Clearly not been introduced to Cilit Bang!
Breakfast was very good. We received more toast than 3 guests could ever get through, a joke shared by the other guests too. We asked if Pancakes would be possible for our little one, and although they were happy to do it they found they didn't have flour available, but thats to be expected. We received a generous breakfast portion and the server was very friendly and willing to help.
I really feel bad for the staff here as they clearly care about customers, but are let down by a very tired building with little to no thought about decoration or room layouts. A chimney sweep and cleaner would go a long way to improve the hotel standards.

Great staff. We were really well looked after. Huge meals provided evening and morning. Rooms in need of some decoration and maintenance, but all was reasonably priced. All very clean. Would happily stay again.

Greeted by member of staff Chloe, polite bubbly and couldn't do enough for us , rooms where clean and tidy bed very comfortable , hotel in a busy main road but we had no problem with noise . Hotel landlord Jason and the rest of the team made us feel very welcome. The scenery and places to visit are fantastic . The locals are brilliant and great fun with plenty of local info for a great stay. All in all we rated are stay 100% enjoyable and would not hesitate to book again.

I wanted dog friendly accomodation at a decent price - and got it. An older pub but the rooms are big and clean, food is the usual bar menu but freshly cooked, well presented, tasty and very good value. Staff are all very friendly and made a big fuss of my dog. Canal and old limekilns a couple of minutes away for a decent dog walk

Can't recommend this place enough. Landlord was total legend. Free drink on arrival, sorted us out and asked if we needed owt regularly but not in your face. Room was good size and you didn't notice the noise of the road even though our room was at the front. Bar downstairs and good breakfast selection incl cooked to get your day going.

No heating overnight, very limited choices for dinner (pizza), faulty locks, faulty shower, faulty windows. Customer service was good with an exception for one evening when I was told by the lady at the bar that she will NOT cook any pizza for me and I should go out and practically sort myself out for dinner (which by the way was included in the room price)

A lovely pub hotel. The owner is very welcoming and the rooms are comfortable and cosy. The village location is great for local walking routes. We have stayed here several times and highly recommend it!

Stopped here when in Wales on a trip to Revolution bike park. Rooms were clean and very spacious. Staff were friendly and the was a good selection of beers available at great prices at the bar. Breakfast tray delivered to the room was a nice touch. I'd possibly recommend bringing your own pillow as the ones provided were like a pile of bricks in a pillow case. Other than that everything was spot on.
