Lovely stay at the Charles Cotton. Brilliant staff, nothing too much trouble. Nice to sit out the front and watch the world go by in the evening. Super comfy bed. Massive room and bathroom. Nice breakfast. Would recommend.

Lovely place in beautiful surroundings. The room was comfortable, plenty of parking, although anyone with a wider than usual vehicle may struggle to get through the gaps between the buildings. A few points knocked it off the 5 star spot. It was so quiet, but the room was too warm to sleep well (early September), and there was a slightly smoky smell in the bathroom, despite the rooms being strictly no smoking. Breakfast was good, but dinners were only OK. Battered fish was only just on the acceptable side of over-done, and I've cooked far better curries myself. Kids portions were great, but no kids desserts, so ended up paying £6 for a bowl of ice-cream that was left half-uneaten.

We had a night at The Charles Cotton Hotel. We got a lovely welcome. The food we had was nicely presented and enjoyable. We didn't have long wait times and all the staff were friendly and helpful. We went on a wonderful walk while we were there and enjoyed the surroundings. It is a brilliant place for hikers and we felt the accommodation reflects this, basic not plush, but very comfortable. We would definitely go again.

Visited for a one night stay, was really nice and worth the price paid for.. staff are really friendly and kind. Only downside was the room was incredibly warm no air con & breakfast was mediocre portions weren't so great no fruits, crossaints etc.. Overall had a really good stay and will be coming back

Great staff. Lovely food which was reasonably priced and served well presented and very hot. Love the outdoor spaces, especially at the front. Lovely village. Hotel itself needs some TLC.

Stayed the night in the village and was the only place we could get food at short notice. They were busy and the service was good to start but as less tables were sitting the service tailed off. The sticky toffee pudding was still cold inside. Price was reasonable, all four of us are and drank for just over £100.

Room was clean, bed comfy. But it is dated, but didn't detract from the overall experience. Food was beautiful and the staff are amazing. The village of Hartington is just beautiful. We will be back🥰

It is rare these days to find staff who actually appear to enjoy what they are doing. The team at the Charles Cotton are friendly and welcoming. They were helpful and very accommodating. A credit to the business.
The food is good. Simple, good pub food with a broad selection on the menu. Cannot fault the service.
As a hotel, it is full of charm. Don’t expect boundless luxury and enormous rooms, that is not what this is about. My only small grumble is with the soundproofing between rooms, but this is an old building filled with character. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
