Never slept there - been there many times for food which is amazing. Went there once for a party and I love how in such a small spot for the party, it was still great. The history of it is so interesting and the paranormal activity in the building is so incredible. Planning to go in the most haunted room. Figure out more about the hotel. Overall, the best hotel I’ve been to

The lack of immediate parking is a slight issue, but the town does have free parking not too far away.
The layout of the function areas is a bit of a let down, especially with having to come up and down stairs all night to go to the bar.
But that being said, it's a beautifully decorated and the staff are very welcoming and helpful for all needs.

Stayed i room 215 second floor. Fantastic value for money in my opinion, well equipped, tastefully designed modern vehicle room with original exposed timbers.

Only staying for a few nights whilst working in the area, decent amenities within walking distance if you don't wish to eat / drink at the on site.

5/5 would recommend to colleagues and friends.

Many thanks,

Dan.

I’ve just spent 3 nights here & very happy with my choice. I am from the town but moved abroad 16 years ago so I looked forward to staying in a place I knew but never stayed before. My room was small as it was a single but sufficient nonetheless, bed was very comfortable, modern bathroom, tea & coffee supplied & the room was very clean. I loved exploring a bit more of the hotel as I’d only used the bar & one function room many years ago, fascinating history & the character of the building are both interesting. All of the staff were very friendly & helpful, they made my stay even better!
If you want modern don’t stay here then complain about things that can’t be changed in a listed building of that age, there is no lift so if that matters just be aware it’s stairs all the way!

Stopped in for lunch. Ordered a couple of cheese toasties. Food was presented well and tasted lovely. Staff were welcoming and friendly. It was a lovely little nook off the highstreet on an otherwise miserable rainy day.

I can't comment on the rooms although I believe they were very good because I met family who were staying here. We had drinks in the bar area which were very reasonably priced and the staff were fantastic, very friendly and helpful. Thank you.

This was a Christmas work event. Parking not easy, food was rubbish, only the starter was any good. Vegetables were put on the table, but then it took another 5 mins for the plates with the meat on etc. 8 of us on a table, the veg consisted of 10 small cuttings of carrots and 20 brussel sprouts.....! The room was too small for the amount of people.

Rooms ok, had a rip in the cotton bed sheet. The hotel needs a lick of paint and some new carpets. Just needs some investment, shame to see such a beautiful building fall behind on maintenance considering the price of the rooms etc.
