Waited a life time to stay here. I love the history and nostalgia of these Grand Hotels.
The staff were amazing especially in the dining room, nothing too much trouble. The communal areas all clean and tidy. One improvement certainly needed is the main lift, this was incredibly slow. Is was quicker to take the stairs which a lot of people did both young and older.
We booked 4 rooms. Each one was different.
All were clean and nicely presented. Unfortunately mine was the least luxurious. Very plain and simple. Some people may be disappointed but was what I was expecting. The other rooms looked and felt better.
Overall I would say the hotel was value for money when you take in to account the excellent value and quality of the meals which were buffet style all you can eat.

The location is amazing, especially if you have children as it’s so convenient for the pier, shops, everything. Customer service is good. However, the actual hotel is just about bearable to stay in. As soon as we walked into the room, it stank. A musky smell. The lock on the balcony door was broken which was dangerous for my daughter so someone had to fix it, which they did quickly. Atmosphere isn’t great. Cheap coke. The decor is awful. TV is so tiny. Wouldn’t say it is super clean - little bits of dust here and there, mould on the bath matt. The bed was thankfully clean. Shower not working properly. Don’t know how it works in colder nights as the balcony doors don’t fully shut. Just a latch. I wouldn’t stay here again, I wish we read the reviews before booking this.

I'd heard numerous negative stories about The Grand and was apprehensive about staying, however it was on my bucket list so stay I did.
I booked a double room overlooking the sea and it was clean and fresh. Sadly couldn't go onto the balcony but the door ajar for sounds of the seaside, the shower didn't work but bath was fine. I slept well.
Breakfast was a 'help yourself' job, and a good selection. No complaints from me.
I can see how back in the day the Grand was truly grand, but it's tired and furnishings old fashioned. Windows could do with a good clean.
So why was The Grand on my bucket list? Because The Beatles stayed there August 1963, and I have fun memories of antics trying to spy them and being told off by the Doorman!!!

Beautiful listed building. Room cosy, plenty of space and storage. Bed was comfortable, just right. No bath mat, had to use hand towel. No teaspoons for stirring but a wooden stirrer was replaced. One tap was dripping but not much. We didn't know the room wasn't cleaned unless you put towels outside the room. We changed towels by ourselves. We asked for tea/milk/coffee replenishment. Friendly staff and helpful.
Food was basics, just right. A good choice of hot and cold buffet. The chef went out of his way to cater for me veggie needs, thank you. Good choice of breakfast, again hot or cold. Puddings was lovely, good selection.
Despite the lack of room cleaning, and not a proper teaspoons, will definitely come back again!

Beautiful big grand hotel.
Beautiful breakfast which was £9.50 but was buffet style
Bed was extremely uncomfortable felt like was sleeping on plank of wood.
Room had all the essentials needed.
Room was clean with a large bath with shower over it.
Windows could have done with a clean as had some black mould on frame.
Would stay here again but would have to upgrade to hopefully get a comfier bed as got no sleep but didn't complain as was only there for 1 night

This beautiful hotel really is grand. Very clean with sparkling chandeliers - a lovely feel about the place and a warm ambience. Staff are friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Food is lovely with a great choice and always vegetarian options too. I would definitely recommend The Grand Hotel to anyone looking to stay somewhere friendly and inviting. The only negative is.... that I'm not staying longer and will be leaving for home in Scotland in the next few days.

Big shout out to the staff here! They are all lovely and very welcoming! The Chef is the nicest man, so witty, charming and very hard working! The food was very good, and plenty of it! Such a perfect little stay while on our bus tour. I would most certainly again!!

Just returned from a 3 days turkey and tinsel stay at the grand with my elderly parents & husband. Wasn't entirely sure what to expect after reading many reviews, but we had no qualms whatsoever.
From being greeted by reception staff to leaving this morning our stay has been flawless
We paid £100 per room per night including dinner & breakfast, great value !!
Very clean rooms, good selection of tasty food at both breakfast and dinner, friendly staff, beautiful interior & good entertainment
All meals are buffet style so eat as much of what you want
We had a lovely Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, crackers, hats & fizz
Yes the decor in places is tired but you can see a lot of work & renovation has taken place with wonderful results, staff are proud of there hotel
We would definitely stay here again
A big thank you to everyone at the Grand
