Wow what a place. Let’s talk first about the excellent service. Ben behind the bar, brilliant. I spent the night here after having a meal. They really are good. And as for the breakfast, well.
So downsides, there weren’t any fish knives and I had to really press for sauce tartare but that’s all.
The food was mind blowing, there were all kinds of drinks, the bar was social, the rooms immaculate. They took me and served an excellent breakfast

What a lovely weekend we have had at The Slate celebrating my birthday!
A beautiful place to stay, eat and drink.
Delicious food , amazing cocktails and wonderful friendly staff
We delayed travelling home so we could have a roast dinner and it’s the best one I have ever had.
Would highly recommend and we will most definitely be returning

Lots to like here, a quirky hotel made up of old cottages, a nice restaurant and and pleasant bar. The staff were friendly and the price paid fair. Only complaints were a luke warm breakfast and equally luke warm shower. I’d probably have given 3.5 stars if that was an option. Owners and staff have clearly invested a lot in the business and we would happily go back.

I don’t normally feel compelled to write reviews but the Slate deserves one! Delicious quality food, congratulations to chef and team as all dishes were very tasty and served hot, duck was succulent, the chips were fresh, lamb just fell off the bone, chilli beef and curries also did not disappoint. Very attentive and pleasant staff. Thank you for making it a great catch up event, long overdue!

Menu on the website wasn’t the same as on the night and few were disappointed as we expected certain meals our waitress told us next time to call in advance as they could make sure that a dish could be prepared especially for us. Decent food on a whole, we had one on our table that was disappointed with the vegetable Pizza- the vegetables were not listed and seemed to be an odd mix of veg that is included in the other meals. Everyone else enjoyed their food, the seafood lasagna and chili beef was highly rated. - Top marks for that. We felt it could have been slightly better as this place has had a lot of good reviews. We felt we were waiting a while for our food and also for the bill, especially as we had plans afterwards. Overall the bar area and place as a whole was nice but the food a but disappointing compared to expected.

Gathering following cremation. Buffet on the table as we arrived as requested, all home made, catering for upto 50. Ideal location for getting back onto A55 as many people had to travel. Private place, but staff on hand if required. Couldn't have been any better.

I have visited The Slate on 3 occasions recently after my wife was hospitalised in Bangor . The local B&B owner recommended The Slate as a place to get excellent food, On my first visit on Friday 16 December 2022 I was treated to a beautiful Parsnip Soup starter , an extraordinary sausage and Mash with lovely battered onion rings for the main course and a delightful Crunchie Waffle for the sweet course. The food was accompanied by a well kept , red real ale Bragdy Leu Bendiglidfran - surprisingly good real ale that was new to me.

The Slate is 'tucked away' in the hamlet of Tal-Y- Bont and is very close to the A55 and just off the A5 road into Bangor . It has brown tourist signs giving the visitor directions to The Stile. The Stile is reached by taking a right turn ( when heading North East ) into Tal -Y - Bont and then a left up a narrow to reach The Slate . (Do be careful as there are lots of parked local residents vehicle in the narrow lane approaching The Slate ) The Slate has a large car park on its left handside with space for about 20 cars in it whilst more space is used at the front and other small spaces to the right

Inside is well appointed with 3 main areas

1. A bar with a variety of seating and tables on the left of The Stile
2. A ' Reception area in the central part of the Slate
3 A multi levelled restaurant is on the right hand

The service has been knowledgeable with friendly and caring approach. The staff have been very kind and interested to know how my wife has been progressing .

I look forward to returning in the future with my wife to share the dining experience in The Slate.
