As a retired exile, living in the East Midlands, I don't get home often enough. In fact, my last visit was last March, when I had the very good fortune to discover the Hendrewen through tinterweb.
This hotel is the best kept secret in the Rhondda!!
The welcome that I received from Jim and Julie was terrific, as was my acceptance by the locals.
It was the weekend of the England v Wales game and unknown to me my son, who also lives here in the East Midlands, had arranged to follow me down, with some of his Coalville RFC fellow players, to watch the game in the only place: a pub, back home.
Imagine my surprise, then, when he and his friends walked in with just 15 minutes to kick-off.
But the biggest surprise was that the whole village, or so it seemed, was in on the secret.
And even though the Boys lost that game, the most wonderful time was had by all, not least by the three Anglos who also received a proper Welsh open-arms welcome.
I really, REALLY, must get back there soon.

The room we stayed in was comfortable. The lounge room is a little neglected. Overall I'm pleased with my stay.

The rooms are quite dusty. The beds smelt musty. The corners of the room had lots of mould, heating didn't work, was very cold.
They were very friendly and welcoming, and this place might be ok as a basic option if you aren't too bothered about the overall cleanliness of the room.

Stay away from!
Accomodation is old and tired and should be closed! Keywords: dust, damp, mold, cold, poor heating, parking unaccesable and poor WiFi apply here. I booked 2 nights but checked out after one. They have a serious damp problem, all the beds and sheets were wet and cold, like camping in the rain. Rooms havent been dusted for years and there is mold on the walls. Hairs in the beds and on the floor, be advised not to drop your pillow on the floor!
I payed 60GBP wich seemed normal for this accomodation but was worth 15 and that's only for a cooked breakfast wich was great. We've had much better hotels, inns and b&b's for 5-7 GBP extra.
Pictures speak for themselves.

I was put up here with my 4 children as my gas and electricity was condemned in my rented property and environmental services said it was to dangerous to stay. Jim and his wife in the hendrewen couldnt do enough for me and my girls and made us feel so welcome, rooms were very comfortable and cosy and very clean. Would definitely recommend.
