Communication is terrible. As a first time buyer we had no experience whatsoever before of how things would work when buying a home. Bottrills kept us in dark most of the time and hardly helpful. Emails are short and unclear. Had 1 phone call throughout the whole experience which lasted max 2 minutes. But on the Up side, they did their job and done the deal. Overall, could improve massively on communication!

Without a doubt the worst solicitors I have had to deal with, buying or selling. Just like many of the other reviews on here we had the same problems:

Questions we raised completely ignored
Buyers Solicitors had to answer own enquiries
Emails regularly go missing
Hard to reach by phone
Delays at every single stage of the process

Supposed to exchange contracts in August, work still being done to pull bits together the night before we completed... in December. Not all Bottrills fault as the chain collapsed at one part, but they claimed everything was signed off and good to go, yet when we actually exchanged 3-4 months later we were delayed by another 2 days as Bottrills still hadn’t answered enquiries.

Bottrills regularly blamed everyone else but were unable to provide proof of the work they had done, while all others involved could prove they were waiting on Bottrills.

Astonished to see any good reviews on here, although the positive feedback doesn’t quite tie up when you see comments regarding good client feedback when they had a rating below 2 stars before those reviews came in.

Moving house is stressful, just make sure you do adequate research on any solicitors you chose for your home move.

Recently used for our house move, communication was usually one, maybe two sentences and often didn't reply to everything being asked. Had to chase at least half of my E-mails twice to get a reply and had two occasions where I had to chase three times to get a very simple answer.

Complained mid way through the move and communication did improve for a few weeks before slipping back into the same old routine of not answering E--mails.

Would never take responsibility for anything, we had to restart the process of exchanging because funds were not passed up the chain properly, not surprisingly both solicitors above us blamed ours (who claimed there wasn't a problem.)

Wouldn't chase anything, if it wasn't for our estate agent I'm sure we would still be waiting for enquiries to come back. They sent questions to our buyers and never informed me they hadn't had a reply. We eventually found out six weeks later they had sent them to the wrong E-mail address. This was resolved by ME picking up the phone and talking to my buyers solicitors to get the correct address and to chase the enquiries.

While I accept you will never truly have a good experience with a solicitor on something such as a house move, these guys were by far the worst I have experienced.

Avoid using if you are first-time buyer as comms are very short and sometimes misleading. Lost my help-to-buy government bonus as they did not advise me promptly on when to close my savings account. Also, tried to overcharge me £750 as did not notice the deposit was transferred in two parts into their account this was due to quoting me incorrectly on the sum i'm meant to send. Solicitors' negligence springs to mind...

Was assigned to Bottrills through Homeward Legal, if they assign you to this solicitor, please request to be reassigned. Absolutely terrible service, communication was abysmal, and during the process my solicitor left, and Bottrils did not let me know until I got in contact with Homeward Legal to find out what was going on, at which point they said they could no longer handle my case. To make matters worse, they dragged their feet when they needed to transfer my file to my new solicitor, and I received no apology. Would definitely not recommend them.

Bewildered, frustrated, angry. Wrong name on the land registry title. I have requested the solicitor to correct that mistake, who promised to correct it each time I contacted her and at the end left. Since her departure, Bottrills told me they would correct the mistake. Another six months passed, they have not bothered to make any efforts, appalling. I have paid all the service charge. Will Bottrills be responsible for that?

Very disappointing service. Poor communication with all parties led to a increasingly frustrating situation along with a lack of empathy with the conveyancing process. After signing up with this firm we ended up being 'off-loaded' onto an external person who emailed us during out of office hours for example during the night and often did not respond to our queries or questions for days. We had to chase them up several times via the partners at the main office (who seemed to have moved offices but not updated their location on their website, just placing a note on the door of the former office?) Bottrills had to be micro-manged by us, after several sales fell through. I would not recommend Bottrills. An extremely frustrating service, the likes of which I've never experienced before.
