As a first time buyer I was unsure who to use, but so glad I chose Hawley and Rogers (Lisa). 95% of the communication was done via email which due to my job made life easier as I can't always answer calls.
It took (just) less than 6 weeks from my offer being accepted to getting my keys. Communication was brilliant, all my questions were answered promptly via email.
I would highly recommend.
They are now saying that they are refusing to pay us until they receive a paper invoice due to company policy because apparently a digital invoices can be faked. Well I have news, so can a paper invoice. I offered to send a copy of my business bank card, blank cheque or paying in slip to prove the correct bank details but hit a brick wall.
These policies are archaic and ridiculous in this day and age and the fact that they are not able able to set a forward email up on staff that leave the business is questionable. If this business asks you to do any sort of work to a property on their behalf, I would recommend declining. I would give this 1 Start but I have not had any dealings with their actual legal services so I feel it unjust to give 1 star on this basis.
Our experience with H&R really wasn’t great. The process of buying and selling a house is already stressful but I feel it was more stressful due to the staff members I dealt with at this solicitors (from reviews it seems your experience very much depends on who you get). The solicitor got the names on the property wrong and after I pointed this out suggested just crossing them out on the forms (seems unprofessional on an important legal document) and did things like getting the mortgage amount wrong too, they are just 2 examples of basic mistakes. These kinds of things eroded our trust in them. They were also quite rude in tone on the phone (only phoned a few times during the process) and there was an issue with HRMC where they were sending us the stamp duty bill and many reminders about this for a few months afterwards.
Overall we got the house we wanted but wouldn’t recommend their services and would definitely choose another solicitor in future.
Not too sure if this is anything on the solicitors part; however, the completion date couldn't be confirmed until pretty much a couple of days before the move so had to get things arranged last minute. Might have been stamp duty holiday etc affecting this, not sure.
Would probably use again as they're a good solicitor
