Easy to find and quite near from my residence in Champion Hill. Google map gives wrong information so go checking on their website for the location. Library provides limited seats, tables and computers. Ideal place for studying.

Dumbed down version of a library but still worth visiting. Pity that Lambeth councillors voted to waste scarce resources on digging out the basement at a cost of £1.2m (no doubt the cost increased from this contract sum), would have been better to spend it on running a library rather than their own vain projects. Um, after writing this a few weeks ago I am updating it as I went back to the library to read a newspaper and the member of staff there (not a security guard) looked at me as if I was crazy and asked me if the library ever used to have newspapers!! Perhaps not so worth visiting after all.

The library would be fine if the parents who live in the area didn't think it was acceptable to allow their children to run around and shout as they conduct conversations shouting across the room at each other. The staff have no interest in doing anything about. Really terrible.

Extremely noisy after 3:30pm since that the time kids finish school, they play toys, they run around they scream and shout. Parents and librarian just don't care. Definitely not suitable for readers who prefers a quiet reading environment. And the wifi won't stop disconnecting.

Recently reopened. Has a wide range of facilities. It is excellent
that Lambeth Council has been able keep a high quality library
open in Herne Hill inspite of major central government reduction
in funding for the Council.

The library itself is good: there is a decent selection of books and space to work / read (not in abundance but there is enough). However, it seems to have a bit of an identity problem: at around 15:30 the local kids start to make a LOT of noise and it isn’t clear if your in a library or a daycare. This wouldn’t be such an issue if the time was clearly designated for children or if the place was open for longer (they open at 11 then close for lunch between 13:00 till 14:00 and 18:00 is final closing). This leaves precious little time for people using the library, you know, the way their supposed to be used. It’s not a great space for reading or working. There are also other rooms that could be designated as either a quiet working space or a children’s section, rather than having both lumped in together.
I hope they look into some rearrangements that could benefit both young families and the students who seem desperate for space to work.

Great library. A really valuable resource and important community focal point for a quiet residential area. So glad full time librarians are back and there are now decent opening hours again. Thank you to the friends, the trust and locals for fighting to keep it open - despite lambeth’s attempts to chip away at it.
