Absolutely awful patient manner. Spoke to the rude pharmacist who just didn't want to help me. I said I had spoken to several people already, including the reception team who had instructed me to call the pharmacist. I was in desperate need of an Asthma pump that I had unfortunately lost and the receptionist Emma said the pharmacist would help me and to call back between 10-12, which I did. When I spoke to the pharmacist, she sounded very stressed and quite rude. I was abruptly told to email my request, when I asked if the email would be checked, she told me it was checked daily and that I would get a response. Still haven't got a response, which I did not expect as I was curt back to the women when spoken to in such a manner, she made me feel that I was just getting in the way and she had no time to deal with me, because she was far too busy . I realise that the NHS is stretched and at braking point but this is no excuse for poor manners, it was very unprofessional and totally unnecessary. Rude Rude woman. I am thankful that my calls are recorded as I called from work and having listened again to her tone it has prompted me to write this review in the hope she will read it and think twice about being so rude. I still haven't received a reply and nor have I got another prescription. I have called again this morning, hoping to get a telephone call from my GP with whom I will again mention the treatment received from her practice. Update - My GP has just called me and it was a delight to speak to her. She was both polite and helpful and my prescription will be done today, at least I will be able to breathe easier.

I've been thoroughly impressed with Amherst Medical Practice since we moved here in July 2020. The quality of care is fantastic, I love that you're assigned a doctor and they continue your care so there's no re-explaining your history to multiple docs. I've had same day appointments on more than one occasion for my boys, and I always feel like the doctors really care. They are good at managing expectations re appointments/communications, and as a result I have never been dissatisfied with time taken to speak to a Doctor or hear back from a nurse or anything like that. Really well run.

I rang at 10am today on behalf of my mother, as it was Monday morning it was obviously very likely an extremely busy time. I cannot praise highly enough the care my mother received. Due to chronic health conditions I requested and received a home visit from their roving paramedic Mark who was brilliant in every aspect on how he dealt with my mum, he listened to what was said and understood everything perfectly. He followed up with a phone call as promised after he had spoken to the GP and sent a prescription to the pharmacy early evening.
Seriously impressed, thank you Amherst Medical Practice

The receptionists are awful. Very rude, arrogant and miserable. They speak to you like they are angry that you called them to book an appointment. I’ve actually been stood in the reception area of this practice waiting to speak to a receptionist who let the phone ring out continuously while she had her non work related conversation with her colleague whilst also ignoring me. The doctors are fine but they need to replace all the receptionists for ones that actually sound like they care and enjoy their job!

My 81yo Mum was referred for a dermatology procedure at this practice. We went to her appointment, and were told by the consultant’s nurse that the consultant was running 45 minutes late. We were told that if we couldn’t wait, we could rearrange. When we tried to do this, we couldn’t find the nurse in question. I went to reception and tried to ask a receptionist where said nurse may be. She didn’t give me a chance to explain, and told me that if we weren’t waiting, we would be discharged and would have to be re-referred by our GP. When I tried to explain what the nurse had said, the receptionist decided to answer a ringing phone and speak to that person - leaving me standing at reception with no answers. I went and sat back down, and then overheard the three receptionists speaking loudly about MY attitude!
I can’t comment about the GP’s, but the receptionists are disgustingly rude. So pleased this isn’t my surgery!!!!!

I must say reading all the negative reviews, has really shocked me. I have been with this practise for about a year now. I have never had a problem getting an appointment. The receptionists can never do enough for me and are always so helpful.

Dr White is currently helping me and I must say she is very thorough, always calls back if I need to ask advice and i instantly felt comfortable. Thank you.

Some reviews have been quite rude…. But you cannot please everyone and I think those people must be very hard to please or woke on the wrong side of the bed!!

I really don’t like leaving negative reviews but it has got to the point where I feel like I have no choice. Every single interaction with them is negative and stressful. I really do not recommend them as a GP.
I will explain using today’s example but there really has been so many examples I can use from previous interactions with them since I joined them 2 years ago.

This morning I call the doctors at 8:31am and it says our phone lines are full and it hangs up on me.
I ring a little while later, the receptionist answers and I ask for an appointment. The rude receptionist answers back saying they don’t do appointments only telephone appointments. Well yes, by appointment I did mean telephone, I don’t see the need to point out I meant telephone, it’s the same thing. Anyway I explain I’m pregnant and I need an appointment. She says they have no appointments left today and I need to call back tomorrow at 8:30am to get an appointment. I explained I already did that this morning but fine.
I call 111 because with my symptoms, it can’t wait until tomorrow. When speaking to 111 they advise I need an appointment in the next 2 hours. She asks have I tried my GP? I say yes but they were fully booked. She says oh that’s strange, I have been able to book an appointment for you.
So after all that, they did have appointments left! I’m not sure why the receptionist lied, wasting my time but most importantly 111’s time.

As I already stated, this is one example. The receptionists are really unpleasant and rude whenever you speak to them. My doctor is also useless and in a negligent way.
Having moved around a lot, I have experienced many different GP’s and I know the level of care I should expect to receive. This is 100% the worst GP I have ever had and it’s really unacceptable.

I really try to avoid leaving negative reviews but since I've read some reviews and kept seeing the same point I have to repeat it again. Receptionists are rude and unpleasant, and they think the person on other side of the phone call is stupid and has absolutely no idea and therefor it is not worth to listen to them. Even if the NHS pays for your patients, it does not give you the right to treat your patients like second-class people.
