Good model shop but the real prize is the recreation of the Battle of Rorkes Drift in the middle of the shop. Worth driving miles to see :). Absolutely amazing!

This is the sort of shop that used to be common in the 1970s and 1980s before the apparent decline of specialist retailers and large superstores and the Internet. I had the chance to speak to the owner and his wife, both knowledgeable and pleasant.

First, they do NOT do model trains. No model railways, so if you are into trains, this is not the shop for you, UNLESS you are looking for scenery items, flock and static grass. This is also a GW free zone.

They do have a huge variety of plastic model kits from Airfix, Revell, plus lots of other well known and not so well known to me brands like Meng. Aircraft, tanks, cars, diorama sets, 28mm Victrix Romans, Warlord games epic scale Waterloo plus lots more.

They have several paint ranges, I recall Humbrol and Army Painter. Modelling tools, which I needed having forgotten to take mine on holiday. There was a display full of collectible toy cars, sort of like the matchbox cars of yesteryear. Plus a range of plastic figures which were not Lego.

When I visited, there was a large Rourke's Drift diorama in 28mm that had been created by the owners. Very impressive and well made. We were staying near Harlech.

The thing to remember is that Porthmadog Models is a small local business whose main trade comes from tourists in the holiday season and Christmas. If you are thinking of visiting and it's in the off season, September to March, it is well worth giving them a call to check on opening times and stock.

Hopefully be seeing them again this year.

A nice, chilled & friendly hobby shop with a staggering array of kits and scenic pieces, easily the biggest selection I've found in in North Wales.

I'll make a point of calling again when I'm passing through!

Excellent little model shop. Tidy, well organised, friendly and great stock of the modelling staples (paint, glue, tools and materials). Definitely worth a visit if in the area.
