I was a customer for 10 years and the only reason I did not buy from Malcolm this last time was he didn't have the new model motorhome that I wanted.
John.
I wished Malcolm still owned the company when I decided to buy a motorhome in June this year, as judging from the good reviews he received, I feel I may have received better after-care customer service.
I arrived to pick up my brand new £65,000 Motorhome. On removing the polythene from the seats, getting ready to drive it away, I noticed a hole in the rear of the passenger seat, as if it had been stabbed. (I think it was lucky that I spotted this, because I feel that if I had left the forecourt and found this later, I would possibly of been blamed for the damage ) This consequently got taken away to a local repair company, which I felt was then bodged up by them. With no apology. It came back eventually, as I had stood around waiting for it's return, with a poor repair carried out, which was clearly still visible. I was disappointed, but it was better than a hole, so accepted it.
I payed for a digital aerial as an extra, supplied and fitted by them @ £440 which worked now and then and then it stopped working altogether. I searched online and found the same aerial on the internet for £87.99 and he refused to refund my money. All he would do was ask me to drive 80 miles back to him so he could have a look at repairing / replacing this cheap, inadequate aerial. I have since decided to sell my very expensive motorhome, because I do not ever want to deal with Jonathan from Malcolm's Motorhomes again in the future, if there was ever any issues with the motorhome that was supplied by him. I found him to be fine whilst you are parting with your cash, but things soon change when you have problems with extras that he has supplied and installed. These should come with a money-back guarantee if they do not work sufficiently and a customer is unhappy with them, but I was simply told that aerial has worked well for other customers. I was way over charged for this and the after care was rude and unhelpful.

One star has been awarded as we couldn't give it zero!
Don't be fooled by the excellent reviews of Malcolm's Motorhomes! This is in name only! A company called Cheshire Motorhomes bought the company and relies on the previous company's good reputation.
Jonathan, the salesman, is very accomodating and pleasant to deal with when trying to secure a sale. However, once you have paid for your Motorhome, the situation drastically changes. Should you encounter any problems you will experience obstructive behaviour, difficulties in making contact and an unwillingness to solve issues. Be Warned!
Great service and attention to detail from Jonathan and Steve.
Thank you.
Once at his premises Jonathan was very eager for us to sign his sales invoice & pay in full before we had even viewed the motorhome, yet when we enquired about it he said we’d be able us to view it with his technician stood outside (during lockdown) telling us how things worked. After we insisted on viewing first Jonathan rushed us along “due to COVID” yet he was then perfectly happy to squeeze us into a small office with him & his colleagues to make our payment.
Jonathan locked up his premises & left before we set off for home so we were unable to tell him there was no service history & documentation in the motorhome, as he had earlier told us there was. We had to phone him on our journey home to raise this & he told us “there isn’t any then”. Not the answer we were expecting for a £35,000 purchase from a main dealer who should have been up front about this before taking our payment for the balance of £33,000, which was clearly his focus. Once home we had the opportunity to thoroughly check over our new motorhome. We spotted several issues with its condition that would have been apparent had we not been rushed through our viewing:
Battery failed after just 100 miles & had to be replaced; motorhome had clearly not been cleaned internally - even a pair of dirty men’s underpants left in one of the lockers! Broken fixtures & fittings – now repaired by us; tiny propane cylinder supplied with motorhome must have been almost empty as it ran out of gas when as soon as we tested the cooker; mattress filling had split so we had to replace it; smoke alarm test button didn't work so we had to buy a new alarm.
We informed Jonathan of this but didn’t get a reply. We’ve requested details of service history & copies of owner handbooks from him too without success. Consequently we’ve had to regard the timing belt replacement as overdue as Fiat state "the timing belt must be changed at least every 5 years”. The £1000 warranty cover Jonathan provided us with wouldn’t cover the cost of a damaged engine so we had to spend £563 on a replacement belt to avoid the possibility of an expensive failure. We’ve asked Jonathan to confirm that the warranty will be honoured despite the lack of service history, again with no response.
Worryingly the habitation check certificate Jonathan provided has no “tick” against either the smoke or CO alarms. This suggests they were not tested & of course we found the smoke alarm didn’t work. We’ve therefore sought his written assurance that all other safety aspects of the check carried out pre-sale were correctly undertaken as the smoke alarm fault raises serious doubts; he hasn’t replied.
We’ve given Jonathan every opportunity to respond to these issues before writing this review. He hasn't been back in touch so we’ve now decided to post it.
Actions speak much louder than words on a website – in our experience Jonathan & his company Malcolm’s Motorhomes most certainly did not “provide…customers with excellent after-sales service” and “unparalleled assistance & guidance”. We have been left with the feeling that we were rushed through a sale where the focus was firmly on money rather than customer care & satisfaction. We cannot recommend Malcolm’s Motorhomes to anyone.
