Booked Burkett to move both mine and my daughters removals together as we were moving to 2 houses in the same grounds. We had concerns re the access of the 2 properties; county lane, right access, steep drive. At initial stage, we showed them both a number of photos of the access together with a message from the current vendor stating maximum 20 ton vehicle world make the turn. Despite reiterating this numerous times, they assured us that they’d looked on Google and we happy that the 2 vehicles (a 30 ton and a 40 ton) would be fine. Our picks up were a day before our removal date. Again we queries with the drivers about access to our new property. They too had concerns especially as the one driver knew the area we were moving to but had also been reassured that they would be fine. Surprise surprise upon arrival at our new property the vehicles were way too large to access our properties. The drivers sat waiting around in their lorries for 3 hours awaiting instructions from the office; apparently one one in in authority to make any decisions. I rang only to be told the same. Upon ringing again, I was advised to tell the drivers to unload any essentials as the vans were to turn back. Bear in mind the size of the lorries and the fact that they had 2 houses loaded into both lorries, that was an impossible task; they only managed to find half a sofa bed and a bed/mattress but no slats. We had a 12 month old baby and 3 digs between us! The lorries then left us. We had no clothes/toilets/ baby items/dog items (including medication) except the items in us. No cooking/eating utensils. So an emergency shop had to be done. Relatives had to drive back from Cornwall to look after the baby. We were advised that a transit would come next day along with the lorries, park a distance away and the items on the kitty would be unloaded then reloaded on the transit and transported to us. When everything was initially loaded into the large lorries it was all carefully wrapped Howe when moving it to the transit van, it wasn’t. We had over £3000 of furniture damaged/scratched (all less than 12 months old invoices provide show this). The removal lads we can’t fault whatsoever. They worked so hard as they even struggled to get their van up the drive and we ended up helping g them carrying everything. Chris’ attitude was disgusting! His attitude was that they looked in Google and it was fine! Dispute us and his driver saying it wasn’t. He even went as far as saying that under their cold conditions he should’ve charged us for coming back! Dispute is telling him previously that there would be a problem! We are still fighting it out with their insurance company as we’re expected to pay their excess and they’ve offered ‘eBay prices’ for brand new furniture. Chris came out to see us and again he was arrogant and would’ve have cared less. His response was £250 compensation is more than enough! We’d had other quotes and both other companies said they’d go and look at our new property the selves upon seeing our pictures. Chris’ response we to that was that we’d charge you more. We weren’t given that option. We provided them with vital info they failed to action in it and took no responsibility whatsoever for their error.
Cannot thank the entire team enough for their hard work across the two scorchingly hot summer days. No complaints at all, excellent value for money, friendly and helpful staff and all items safely packed and moved for us.
We asked Burke Bros to move us from Sutton Coldfield to Bournemouth. We had a 4 bedroom house and wanted to move some of our belongings to storage and some into a rented flat. On the morning of the move two operatives turned up which I found very odd as we had quite a few items to load on the truck. 4 hours into the move it came apparant that the operatives weren't going to finish the job so me and my partner (retired) had to help them which is not what we expected. 8 hours later we managed to load the last items onto the truck and then continue our trip to Bournemouth.
Due to the amount of time taken to load the truck, we missed our appointment with the letting agent to collect the keys to our flat so had to drive to Southampton the next day to collect the keys. To add to the stress, we had to help the operatives unload our belongings into storage due to other removal men complaining the truck had blocked the loading bay so noone else could use it. Burke Bros made our moving day the most stressful time and would never recommend them to anyone. On top of this, we have never had an apology or a phone call from Gary to explain why he only put two operatives on our move.
The only plus point was the two operatives who worked very hard.
