I was desperately disappointed. The money spent on it has ended up with a big empty barn of a place. There are NO labels on anything. It seems you have to look at a monitor and select what you want to know about, that's if you can find one near the item you are interested in. It has a coffee shop. The one thing Northampton isn't short of is another over priced coffee shop. There wasn't anyone to serve the coffee anyway! It seems full of large spacious galleries with NOTHING in them. I visited to see the viking exhibition. That was very disappointing as well, very sparce with few exhibits. I would have looked on the other flours but my wife has mobility problems and you've guessed. The lifts don't work!

The Northampton museum is very interesting. I could visit two sections. Shoe section is amazing. It gives history of development of shoes through the ages. It has hundreds of pair of shoes of different types and time periods. The other section is star war section, which depicts the making of star war movie. Many of the items used by film characters are placed there in original. Everyone who has seen the movie will enjoy it. There is shop from where one can buy items for own collection. The reference is free.

Fantastic museum! We spent about 2-2.5 hours here and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The history of Northampton exhibit was so interesting and it was excellent to see how the area has evolved. The art gallery had some wonderful displays and it was laid out so well. The shoe collection was brilliant and we thoroughly enjoyed seeing the evolution of footwear and styles etc.

We visited while the Star wars "May the Toys be with you" exhibition was on and had a lot of fun looking at all the toys and film posters.

I took my daughter along to the Star Wars Toys exhibition a the Northamton Museum. It is free entry but you are given the option to donate to help fund it. It was an excellent display of original Star Wars Toys, ideal for the fans young and old alike.
The rest of the museum is also worth a visit with a great section on the history of Northampton and also shoes (which Northampton is well known for).
Go visit and enjoy a great few hours of nostalgia and edification.

First visit and it was excellent. Plenty of helpful friendly staff, and a very nice spacious interior, although slightly maze like. I came for the Star Wars toys and Jim Moir paintings exhibitions. The paintings were a real mixture, I liked the Owls and the famous peoples legs and shoes. The Star wars exhibition was fantastic, especially the movie memorabilia.
Coffee shop, nice outdoor seating area, and free entry, go now, you'll love it.

Rubbish it was amazing before doing up. Now they seem to have less in there. Everything is identical to what it was except with new cabinets for somethings. Only new things were a gallery for some strange art. Star Wars, which was mostly figurines and some old posters. The cafe has the biggest expanse of area and again nothing else in there. Maybe nice if you’ve never visited before. Otherwise it’s identical but has cost millions to put a cafe in and spread everything else out. We were in and out having covered the whole lot (being identical to what it was before) in 15 minutes. Fingerprints all over glass first thing when it opened up. They used to be really hot on that cleaning wise.

Shoe’ll love it.

Free to the public. Cool, contemporary, displaying what Northampton knows best, shoes.
There is a comfortable modern art gallery on the 1st floor too.
Currently the museum is between temporary exhibitions. Their next will be Trainers themed. I nearly wept when I found out I just missed the Star Wars exhibit. I’ll be back.

Really much improved with clean, open viewing areas, good toilet facilities and an indoor/outdoor cafe area. Northampton story over two large rooms, a double gallery of animal photos and a gallery of art work. It is clearly educational as teaching studios available. I loved the Vikings exhibition with reference to Northampton. It's free but please donate in the glass box or buying from the shop.
