Beautiful quiet little village with the roman Town remains. I always pass these when walking the dogs as I am local, the history is very interesting but there's not too much to see and isn't a huge site. The castle ruins is a beautiful quiet walk and we love this.

Unbelievable to think in this sleepy part of Monmouthshire lies the ruins of a very important Roman settlement in Wales. It's hard to imagine the scale but the information signs help you do that. Off the beaten track as the A48 tourist route long since bypassed but it's certainly worth a detour. Toilets near the bus stop were open when I visited.

Lovely place to visit. Spread out over a few areas. All have signposts describing what is in front of you. The main wall is quite big and you cane alk around the sides of it. Lovely place for a picnic too. Free parking opposite the main site. The site is just part of the village so no entrance just walk round and it's there. Lovely little village with a pub at the end.

Caerwent is a Romano British town that is relatively well preserved. If we're honest, it's mostly floor plans that are left and sections of the town wall but it gives an idea of the layout of a prosperous tribal market town.
This was a bit of a disappointing visit. It probably wasn't helped by being a hot day and having a 3 year old with us but there also seemed to be wilful misdirection for some areas of the site. There were signs to the walls next to the room with the hypocaust, we followed these through a field to find another sign led on its side and all the other exits from the field padlocked shut so we had to retrace our steps.
We didn't see the main section of the town walls which was a shame. There is no cafe on site and no cafe in the town although there is a pub. The car park is easy to miss but is a decent size. Considering the importance of the site I'm surprised that more is not made of it and a better laid out route done to highlight the temple, walls and forum.

We stopped in Caerwent after visiting Caldicot Castle and we're so glad we did. A delightful little town with Roman ruins and a beautiful church, a hidden gem of a place perfect for a gentle stroll with the dog.

Caerwent is something of a hidden gem, easily missed as you drive along the A48 but well worth a visit. There are 100s of meters of the Roman fortifications along with building foundations many of which have simple but informative signs explaining the history of the town. Surrounded beautiful countryside including many walks in and around Wentwood Forrest and Grey Hill. The local post office / shop is a focal point for the villages inhabitants and the Coach and Horses pub has a large childrens playground with ample seating for summer days or a large conservatory restaurant for colder weather. The walk around the Roman walls is a favourite with dog walkers and the pub welcomes dogs into the bar area if you fancy a swift half.

Quite a pleasant stroll around the perimeter of this old Roman ruins. Some of the best preserved fortifications in the UK although not massive. There is also an excavation of an old Temple as you go through the main street that you can walk around.

If you follow the brown Roman Town signs you will find the free car park. The info boards there show the suggested walk around the city walls and then the ruined forum etc. We did the best section of the walls (the southern half) and then walked back through the pleasant town with its pub, shop and public toilets. All this took just over an hour. Really impressed with the city walls and nice views of surrounding countryside.
