A wonderful way to build your own instrument, and learn a great deal in the process. Friendly and knowledgeable teachers help so that catastrophes are avoided.

I drive all the way from London as there is no other place you can get the expertise. It's a place that time has left behind long may it last. Experienced people that make stringed instruments Violins Guitars and so on.

Absolutely fantastic service , incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, and going above and beyond the call of duty repairing my daughter's violin. I can't recommend Chris highly enough. Note you need to go down the small road to the right of the new build houses, which themselves are to the right of 70A Hartington Grove. I missed it when I first passed by.

Excellent job of re-fretting my Led Paul. Also repaired the neck which was badly split.

A truly exceptional individual and service.

I took my violin to fix a loose seam and to adjust the top nut of my fingerboard. Unbeknownst to me, my violin was poorly setup by another shop: the bridge was too low, the pegs were wonky and the fingerboard grooves were cut in the wrong place, to name but three issues on my violin - I was horrified. However, after Chris carried out the original repairs (which were done very well at a competitive price), he also cut a new top nut, reshaped my fingerboard, refitted a new bridge and replaced my soundpost - all free of charge. I was lost for words - these repairs alone would easily exceed one hundred pounds, yet all this work was done out of consideration of my budget and the shoddiness of the previous setup. I've had this violin for 11 years, and Chris has certainly given it a new lease of life - the sound is more sonorous and warm and the violin so much more playable.

'Exceptional' is certainly a cliched word in the world of reviews. However, this could not apply any more to the service I received from Chris at Cambridge Violin Makers.

I first came here in the late 80s for summer violin making courses. For anyone wishing to build a stringed a violin family instrument I would recommend.
