Chigborough Lakes Nature Reserve

Absolutely lovely place. We had a nice stay in the campsite. Facilities were ok and nice walks around the little lakes. Nice people also around. Definitely recommend this place

Lovely lakes bit outdated seating area but still very pretty

While I appreciate it’s a great place for nature, it’s not so nice to walk here. The paths are mostly overgrown dark tunnels under the trees, peppered with private signs and warnings to stay on the permitted path. There are some glimpses through to the lakes and a few that you seem to be able to walk around (but we may have been trespassing as the signage for where you can walk around them was poor). We found one bench with a nice view and one hide for watching the wildlife. Getting back to the nature reserve car park side was difficult as all the paths looked the same and the map on both entrances was useless, and there are no way markers. Having been lucky to walk in many beautiful places, I found this unwelcoming and not as pleasant as many and won’t be returning. But I’m glad it’s there for local dog walkers and most importantly for wild animals and plants.

Sadly I was disappointed as Essex Essex wildlife trust places are usually special places to be.
Firstly the car park was shut.
The whole foot path around the lakes was overgrown and hardly any views of the lakes.
The best was, no other folks were seen in the walk

Lovely place, but difficult to manage with a wheelchair. It would be nice if there were more benches.

Absolutely stunning abandoned quarry. The amount of wildlife is phenomenal. Don't forget your mosquito repellant though.
