Interesting sundial, with views over portsmouth harbour. Not what you expect in gosport. Never knew it was here, and I have lived here for years. It was a nice find.

Giant sundial, nice peaceful open space between the church and the marina. It has seating and occasional events.

This is no average sundial. It's enormous, approx 25 metres in diameter. It has seating all the way around like a Roman amphitheatre, but without the Gladiators and lions. We walk the dog through the sundial and he loves it too, although his time-keeping is still poor to be honest.

The sundial is right next to Portsmouth Harbour - in my view it has one of the best views of the harbour: you can see across to the naval dockyards, there is often an operational aircraft carrier there to see, plus historic ships, the local cross-harbour ferry plying its trade, and all the maritime traffic in and out of the port entrance.

You can also see the Round Tower across the harbour, built in the 1400s to defend against the French. It is no longer operational and our French friends now sail past it unscathed in one of the many cross-Channel ferries.

I have just one nit to pick with the sundial: it never seems to work very well at night.

Complete waste of money, the sundial doesn't work due to the shadows from the older blocks of flats and the weather monitors there haven't worked in years. Waste of taxpayer money by the council
