This green space seems to have an identity crisis as to whether it's called Westbourne Park (not signed as such anywhere on-site) or Bramford Lane Open Space (?) Whatever its name, it's just a small grassy field bordering Westbourne Academy & Bramford Lane allotments, (within easy walking distance of Whitehouse Park). The perimeter & spots in between are overgrown with brambles, a plant identified by the sign as being advantageous to wildlife. But actually it's an invasive species, so qualifies as a weed & apart from when laden with blackberries, makes the site look unkempt & untidy. During the drought summer of 2022, a fire incinerated a large patch of briar & it should have been used to the benefit to create a proper Park. It was opportunity to plant something more attractive & genuinely beneficial to wildlife. The facility has a fenced in play area, & separate areas for table tennis & basketball. It's also popular with dog walkers from the Bramford Lane & Norwich Road area. However, it's total lack of a single bench or anything else to sit upon, not even a tree stump, makes me seriously question its credentials for qualifying as a 'Park'. However, it's a good place to hear the dawn chorus as lots of birds roost in the surrounding trees...
