Grew up playing in Portland park (down quarry's ) from Mayfield street a group of us would spend most of the weekends/holidays down here as kids, 20+ years later thought we'd go down see if it's same, couldn't find the water steps but found the bmx track (humps n hollas ) although over grown still looks like kids are still having fun there, found the "paddling pool" was surprised the boat has gone, its the first time in all my life I've seen it with water in yes I'm coming up to 40 but walking round here took me straight back to being 10, great cafe good selection of food even full cooked dinners, beer bar bonus, great day out won't leave it so long next time PS, anyone know where all the old photo albums have disappeared to I remember looking through these as a kid and most of my family the Browns, and Hutchinson's off Mayfield street were in em,

Lovely park for a short walk, and with many different paths, you can come again and again and walk a different route each time.
The Fat Rabbit is also worth a look, serving a tasty breakfast, a nice coffee & cake, or even a pint or two for your evening walks.

A wonderful and clean small park, one main loop path with hard surface with other tracks leading off. Great little cafe, nice place to bring the kids/dog or just have a nice walk after work. Park is on a hill so caution if you have difficulty mobility wise.

Always loved this park. Its tidy, well kept and still possesses it's rural beauty.
You can see horses graze there too
Worth a visit, it's nice and quiet

Lovely local park for walking and a good cafe for coffee and snacks.

This is my local walking/running area, and I use it one to three times a week throughout the year.

It's not the biggest country park and takes 1.5 to 2 hours to walk fully. There are shorter walks if required.

There is a car park and a cafe that allows dogs.

Many of the paths are on disused railways as the area had 6 or 7 lines running through it. There are still two active lines running through it.

Nice park to visit and walk around. Woodland and fields. Has ponds with wildlife. Cafe and visitors centre. Free car park, sign posted from the town centre with brown visitors signs.
