Deep in the heart of Bute Park, green giants stand tall and majestic. They stand out on the main path as dog walkers and cyclists wizz past.

However if you have time wander through the woodland track starting behind the carving near Brackweir Bridge. Then you will be transported to another quieter place. Weave through the trees, a grove of redwoods with thick sturdy trunks, exotic pines and hardwoods.

Look up to the high branches with awe or look down and feel the sense of nature close up, magical and spiritual. The woodland flowers mix with pine scemts and fresh bark. Dark and light greens. pale and vibrant flowers dance in dappled light.

Emerging onto Blackweir Fields you can cross the main path and return via the track close to the river Taff with its abundance of smaller trees.

Alternatively head south and after the fields there are pockets of trees belonging to the Arboretum collection. Maples, sycamore, beaches, oaks, and labeled imported specimens, some with interesting names.
