Got there on Saturday 9AM and it was half empty. Big disadvantage is that parking spaces are really tight...cars are squeezed so there are big chances someone will scratch your car... another disadvantage is the ticket machine only accepts coins. It's coins or pay by downloading an app.
On a plus side the parking is placed in the most convenient place & toilets are free of charge.

The Town is rammed every weekend (and even some weekdays), the car park is tiny, as are the other car parks up and down the roads they are rammed aswell.
Got complained at by a parking officer as the 4 of us in my car needed the toilet but there was absolutely nowhere to park so we stopped near the coach parking (which was huge and completely empty), there's not even a drop/wait off area so people can use the bathrooms for a couple of mins.
Have been here loads of times to try and have a walk and go to to a cafe/restaurant and spend some money but the place is always absolutely busy and we literally never bother coming here anymore. This place is a nightmare honestly.

Sunday in the summer holiday... Well there was loads of parking at 9.30am. By 10.30 there was none.

Nice gift shop and museum at the entrance, can recommend any of the cakes and milkshake but not the veggie sausages. Toilets are OK.

Nice little stream running along the side of the carpark.

Been coming to Castleton since I was 7 years old, this place never age's still looks the same as it did when I first came here. I love this place and surroundings area, for its lovely walks above and below ground.

Easily found in the centre, and off of main road through castleton.
The information centre is at the entrance.
There's a cafe and some toilets.
Payment is at 2 pay points..
The machine is temperamental and I witnessed it swallowing at least 3 peoples money without a ticket..
It also accepts payment via the app, so I'd download it first before you arrive.
The app is called " pay by phone " and you attach your card details and vehicle registration to it.
Simply type in the 6 digit unique code attached to the pay station and you can pay online.
Alot of car parks in the Peak District use this app so its worth having..
All the amenities are within easy walking distance from this car park, including peak cavern, cave Dale and several local cafes.
It gets busy at peak times. .

Don't forget to download the app!!!

Car park first hour slightly steep, and though we went during a busy holiday period, we still found a spot within 2 minutes.

Be warned that like all car parks in the Peak District this one is coins only and there is no machine for change. You can only get change by visiting the post office a few minutes walk away (you'll need to leave someone by the car to avoid a ticket) or buy a cup of tea from the hole in the wall place near the toilets. The car park is big enough that you can see it from the castle.
